6br build

I am builing a budget 6br and was wondering what are the heaviest bullets a 1 in 10 twist shoot. Also I dont know what contour to get. Also what length would you recomend. I am getting an er shaw barrel. It will be used for a little benchrest and some varmint hunting. Thanks

Howdy !

I DK your brand of rifle.

IF you are of the Savage bent, I'd skip the Shaw barrel; and contact Fred Moreo of SharpShooter Supply, in Delphos, OH.

Fred can do all things Savage, and perhaps it's cousin the Stevens 200 also.
Those make great accuracy/budget rifles.
Fred has stocks, barrels, triggers, accessories; et all.

No matter what your action brand is, by all means $$$ a good quality name-brand
after-market barrel. " By the best, and cry once ! "

Agree. You can get pre-threaded and chambered barrles from Shilen, Pac-Nor and Lothar-Walthers to name a few of the better after market barrel makers. For around $300.00 you will get a lapped barrel that will shoot with the best of them. If I were you, i'd look at a better quality barrel than a Shaw, as the barrel you chose, will likely be on your rifle for sometime and it is far more fun to shoot a great barrel than a so-so barrel :) Good luck with your project!

Thanks guys. I think I am going to go with a mcgowan barrel. I would go shilen but I would have to wait 16-18 months but only 6-8 for the mcgowan
