6br Broughton 5c barrels

Anybody shooting a Broughton 5c barrel in 6br? I have been reading on broughton's site and they claim there barrels get better velocities, clean up easier, and have longer barrel life with the 5c rifling. If your shooting a broughton 5c what has your experience been with this barrel? Does it do what Broughton says it will? As to getting better velocities, cleaning up easy, and barrel life. What is your experience compared to other barrels that you have shot in 6br?

I've been shooting my first Broughton 5c in a 6br Improved. I have been pretty happy with it, now I have 3 Broughtons. I can't give you a comparison with other barrel makers in this round, but I can say that load data and velocities have been comparable to what everyone else seems to be getting. Round count was well over 3000, and was still shooting good enough for F-Class. Clean up was never an issue, other than staying on top of carbon build up.5c is said to be gentler on bullet jackets, which could prevent bullet failures in some cases. 5c is also claimed to use less powder for the same velocity, compared to standard rifling. It seems to make sense. Whether or not 5c makes a difference, Broughton makes very accurate barrels and you won't go wrong.

the reason broughton says they get higher velocity is because of the land construction. instead of a square edge, it has an angled edge whcih will give a better seal between the bullet and the bore. this will keep pressurized gases from blowing by the bullet. in theory, of course.

I have 2 Broughton 5C barrels. One in 6BR and in .243AI. Both barrels are shooters, they clean easy and yes Ive noticed a little more velocity. On my .243ai I have noticed that the throat has lasted longer than my previous barrel.

I would definatly buy more. There also nice people to deal with too.

Thanks for the info guys. I ordered a barrel blank from Broughton today. Looking forward to getting it up an running this spring hopefully. Was told a 8 to 10 week wait, but it could be a shorter. I hope so!

He's been on time the times I've ordered from him. In fact one time I had a barrel in a couple of weeks, Tim had two extra blanks prepared in the contour I needed so I only waited 2 weeks for them to finish the lapping process. I think his time frame is pretty reasonable. I forgot when I ordered my Bartlein, hopefully it will be worth the wait. ;D

Flybuster,
That sounds great. Tim did say that I might get lucky. He thought he had one contoured for what I wanted. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I was prepared for a 3 mth wait. So 3 to 4 weeks would be awesome!! I will add that Tim is super nice and great to deal with!
