6BR and AR Comp load

I should be getting my 6BR barrel this evening and will be putting the rifle together tonight and will go to the range tomorrow to break in the barrel. :) I'm going to be loading up 6BR Lapua brass with AR Comp and Berger 80 FBs. Any recommended starting loads for this combo (and also Berger 68 FBs)? It's hard to find any data on this. Thanks!

When I shot straight 6brs with 68 ,80, and 88 gr bullets, VV135 was the most accurate powder. Won quite a few matches out to 500 yrs with that combination.

Thanks. I thought I would try AR Comp since it worked really well in my .223 bolt gun. I do have some N135 and there's load data for it so maybe I'll just use that for now.

Thanks for the tip about the h4895 burn rate. So I guess I can approximate the amount.

I am shooting the exact same load and same speed as everyone posting here that uses h4895. But no one will try it... hahahaha they even make fun of me...

It's good stuff bro. So stable and forgiving.

This is me fireforming 6bra in my 7.5 twist Brux with 80 grain Bergers in very sh*tty conditions.

32.5 and 33 shot pretty small.20200124_202245.jpg

I have a 104 freebore in that chamber. I would suggest start at 32 and go up in .3 jumps if you have a 104ish chamber.

My chamber is supposed to have a .098 freebore. I just got the barrel this evening and got the gun together. I checked the COAL and it's around 2.222-2.225 with the Berger 80 at the lands. Berger gives load data for a 2.441 COAL. Since my combo seems short, decrease the starting load?

Yeah, that AR Comp has been great with my .223 even with the temp in the teens at the range. That's why I want to try it with the 6BR. Have you noticed that the powder is out of stock in a lot of places?

I'm not having any problem finding it.

I started at 28 and it shot real nice slow too. Like I said it's very stable and forgiving.

I figure you are going to top out around 33. Maybe a bit less.

Thanks for all the good info. I'm going to get started with loading for tomorrow. :)

Report back your findings.

Just got back from the range. Got the scope zeroed, fire formed new Lapua brass, and got the barrel broken in. Decided to start with a low load at 27.0 grains to play it safe and stopped at 29.7 since I only had 50 pieces of brass ready to go. No signs of pressure so will keep going next time. Wasted ammo zeroing the scope since I forgot this action has a 20 MOA rail and the shots were going over the target. LOL Should have looked through the barrel at the target and got the scope roughly sighted in.

Don't know what happened but at 29.1 grains the moon and stars must have aligned and got a tiny 5 shot group at 100 yards. :D

All those groups are horrible. Told you that stuff would never work.

That’s awesome. This is one of my strings with AR comp from last year. Really quick stuff. A lot of vertical, mostly due to my setup. 26” barrel.

@urbanrifleman I probably should have dropped that load down to 29, as I think it would have been a little more controllable. It’s good stuff.

Interesting. In the 6bra I had two inches of vertical over 1 grain of charge. Super flat response.
