6BR 87gr V-max load data request

Greetings all,

I am looking to come up with a good load for a 1-7.5 twist 6BR barrel with the 87gr V-max. I have a bunch of IMR 8208 and like that powder for it's metering ability and temperature insensitivity. I tried 28.5-30gr today in .5gr intervals but wasn't amazed with anything, including the speeds. Only got 2900fps at 30gr. and 2740fps at 28.5. Maybe it just needs a little more powder.

Group sizes were in the .6-.75" range. This is a cut rifled barrel from a major manufacturer, smithed by a big name smith. It will drop 105 hybrids into <.250" religiously. I don't think it's a barrel problem. I was also using the last remnants of an old lot of bullets. I have heard some of the older 87gr pills weren't spectacular. I have a thousand newer manufacture ones to try next.

Anyway, if anyone has a load worked up for the 87s and 8208 that shoots well, I would appreciate the insight.

No takers?

Well, I guess if anyone has a super load with some other temp insensitive powder I would be all ears on that as well.

I shoot the 87gr Berger VLDs with Benchmark in my 6BR. Benchmark is a Hodgdon Extreme Powder and this load has proven very accurate for me.

Good luck

Gerald

30.5 gr of Varget, 87 V-max, CCI-450, bullet seated. 010 into the rifling. This load agged. 288 for 4. X 5 - shot groups. Amazing for over the counter components. Imho. :D:D

Update to my previous question.

I ended up goin back at it today with the 8208 and changed two other variables. First I swapped from Rem 7 1/2s to Fed 205Ms. I also set the bullet at .010 off the lands from .020. Not sure which one made the bigger difference, but I would guess the latter.

Anyway, if anyone is interested; I found a pretty accurate load (<.200 for three consecutive 5 shot groups).
30.4gr of 8208, Fed 205M, Lapua blue box brass, 87gr Vmax set .010 off the lands. This load gave 2960fps out of a barrel with only 40rds down it, so it should speed up a little and an SD of about 9. Seems like there could be a little more to be had here as my tensions when seating bullets were kind of inconsistent. Not sure what I'm going to do about that yet. Hard for me to believe that Lee still doesn't sell there collet die in 6br.

Exactly 30 grains of Varget with 87 gr. v-max out of a 28 inch Pac-Nor barrel and 3022fps. average velocity.
10 thou jump. This load is a very consistant .6 moa at 200 yards. I am very happy so far.
