6BR/6PPC seater dies

Any reason that a 6PPC seating die would not work for 6BR?
Kelbro,
We had this discussion some time back, the two cases are not even close to one another, you probably could get the job done the other way around but not correctly because the body would not be held tight and in line, this is why they do not make universal seating dies and if they ever did they never became popular.

That's what I was thinking looking at the cartridge drawings. I bought the Lee 6PPC set to get the collet die. I didn't know if the Lee seater was 'sloppy' enough to accomodate the 6BR case. I'm thinking that I might be able to machine the 6PPC seater out to fit but I have a Forster seater on the way.

Update. 15/32 bit in a drill press makes a Lee 6PPC seater into a 6BR seater. Their seaters are apparently not heat treated at all. Ran 10 rounds through. Runout was .0015 or less.

I have no idea how everything is held inline but if it work and it looks like it does and your happy with the results then that's all that matters, happy shooting.

Since I don't have or plan to have a 6PPC, that die was going to go into the junk drawer anyway. My Eastern European heritage makes it hard for me to toss anything :) and I have the correct die on the way.

I set the die up in the vise. Used the largest bit that would fit the existing hole. Used that bit to center the die up under the chuck and clamped it down. Swapped bits out to the 15/32 (which was the closest size in my index to the 6BR case) and plunged it down. A few seconds polishing and it was done. Counting setup, 5 mins and I was done.

I load for 15-20 calibers and I only have two Lee dead-length seater dies. As cheap and sloppy as they look and feel, I have had excellent results with them. A little silicone grease on the seater plug adjustment screw o-ring and threads keeps the adjustment snug.

So, if you have the tools and inclination, the budget priced Lee 6PPC neck sizer set will work for you until you need to FLS. Buy a Redding body die and you're good to go.
