6BR, 105s and 8208XBR?

Thinking of building a 1:8 6BR with the intent to use 105 Hybrids.

I know Varget is very popular with 6BR but I have a bunch of 8208XBR as I use it with 77gr 5.56 loads; curious if anybody else is using XBR with 105-107 class bullets and if so, what kind of velocity and accuracy you are achieving relative to Varget.

Many thanks...

I have a friend who uses it very successfully.. He stated that it is a bit slow, velocity wise, however, he states that it is VERY accurate. I can't remember the exact load but it was in the 27.5-9 range.. He uses 105 hybrids..

Not in a 6BR but I've been using it in a 6XC with 105 VLD's & Hybrids with great results for mid- and long-range iron sight competitions.

I'm surprised some report it "slow" compared to Varget (seems to behave differently dependent on cartridge volume) as I found it the fastest of four out of five propellants I tested back in 2008 when my rifle was new, fastest being RL17 but that was peaky & almost least accurate.

Understand please when I say 'fastest' above I'm talking about velocities produced, not propellant burn rate.

There was a thread last week about this very topic...called pulling 97 bullets....

Not saying it is a bad load, just saying that the thread was three pages of insight.

I presume this is it...

Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

I use 8208 in a 22BR behind a 75 grain Berger.

I'm using 29 grains and grabbed more velocity than using Varget. Pressure didn't increase as fast either.

In fact I could use the same charge or both, but got better velocity with 8208.

I shoot nothing but XBR with 107s in a BR. I use the Bartlein 5R barrel with loads either side of 29grs. As accurate as any powder I have shot, including Varget and RL15. XBR is the king of insensitivity to temperature.

Boiler up. The 97 bullets thread was mine. I've had very good luck with xbr in 308. I only had enough xbr for one range trip in 6mm but at 100 yards my accuracy was excellent. at longer distances it wasn't my best range day but it was the first with this rifle/load and I was able to eventually zero in on all the targets out to 900 yards.

Based on comments in that thread, some other reading, and powder availability, I went with 8lbs of a slower powder, N150. Just loaded a batch but haven't made it to the range and it won't happen this weekend either.

Don't know your barrel length but make sure you notice mine is 30" so my data and the advice in my thread applies to a very long barrel.

If you decide you want something slower, it won't be hard to trade/sell the xbr. It is very popular.

I've had a couple 8 twist 6 br, two cbi prefits and a Krieger. I shot 105 hybrids exclusively in all of them. I never had much luck with varget, but h4895 really worked good for me. Run around 29-29.5 gr and usually get 2850-2925fps, this is in 22-26" barrels. Not exactly what powder u asked for but just another datapoint.

I used to use VV N150 in my 6mmBR with 105 Berger B/T' and Hybrids. With 30.4grs I was going 2910 and it was THEE MOST accurate powder I have ever tried in the 6mmBR.. We ran out of it in the "states" for about 2 years and I got away from it. However, I am in the process of fireforming some 6mmBR brass INTO 6Dasher and I will be using VV N150 in that Dasher.. If the 6BR is any indicator whatsoever, it should be awesome in the Dasher!

how about the Hornady bullet ? Anyone using that one..I am using the Sierra with pretty good accuracy, but need a little more range time with it..Working on my hold considency...
