68 gr. in 1-9 twist

Has anybody out there tried the 68 gr. Hornady hpbt #2278 in a 1-9 twist barrel? Tried them today in a Bushmaster & Savage, both with 1-9,,both are sub moa w/ the 69 gr. Sierra #1380), but could not keep the long,.985") Hornadys on the paper @ 200 yd. The shorter,.900" Sierras' are excellent). Hornady claims they are for 1-7 thru 1-10 twist. I did not get any key-holing: just a lot of wild shots all over the paper. Will try them in a Krieger 1-7.8 and a Bushmaster CMP 1-8.

Had the exact same results with the Hornady 68 grain in my Savage 12FV single shot. Nosler or Sierra 69 gr HPBT's are the ticket in this 1:9 barrel.

Updated results: 68 gr. Hornady #2278 will produce sub moa groups,, at 200 yd), but barrel twist rate must be 1-8 or faster. Using a Compass Lake built AR Flattop, Krieger 1-7.8 twist, Leupold 4-12x at 12x, off the bench, 24 grs. Varget, cci400, seated to touch, 5 shots averaged 1 5/8". Similar to what I get w/ the Sierra #1380, but the Sierra will perform w/ a 1-9 & 1-10. Hornady should "re-visit" their package label claim that the 68s are for 1 7-10. The super long bullet,,.985") really intruded into the case powder capacity/ just not worth fooling around with when the Sierras' are excellent.

I have a sabre defence a4 flattop carbine and I am looking for load info 16.25 barrel 1-9 twist anyone have any tips thanks Victor

Update again, the final one on this subject. 68 gr. Hornady #2278 not the problem. Discovered scope failure on the BM Flattop 1-9, and the front guard screw had begun to back out, on the Savage 1-9. Applied locktite,,blue) re-tightened, tested again today, and groups are the usual sub MOA. A big apology to the folks at Hornady. fdshuster@hotmail.com
