65x47L vargat or H4350

Been reading a lot what I have been reading his from 2010 to 2013 if I remember correctly they preferred Varget for the 6.5 by 47 Lapua with 140 grain projectiles. Just wanted to know if people still prefer Varget over h4350 I have plenty of H4350 one pound of Varget and CCI 400 small rifle primers that's my next question will they work everybody seems to use CCI 450. Are the CCI 450 mags hotter or just a harder cup I believe I have read they just have a harder cup the mixture is the same? I believe I would do fine with CCI 400 but I will give the 450 mags a try when they come available. I kind of want to stick with the 130 Berger hybrid projectile though I have also read that the 65 x 47 Lapua was designed for 123 or 130 grain projectiles correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for your help

What is your barrel length? I prefer H4350, but I have a 30” barrel. The people using Varget are probably using shorter 22-24” barrels.

I prefer Varget with 123/130 bullets and hands down H4350 with 140’s. H4350 shoots well with the 123/130 bullets, but in my experience, Varget was better with them.

CCI 400 will work fine. When you get some 450 or other primers, you can test and see which is better. Most people use 450 because that's what they have and that's what they see everyone else using. I've had some rifles like the 400, some like the 205m, some like the 450, some like the Remington 7 1/2.

If you have a bunch of H4350, try it first. It will probably work very well.

I would try the H4350 that you already have. Preferred powder, and burn rate can change by barrel length. A slower powder might not be efficient in a short barrel, the same way that a faster powder might burn too quickly for a long barrel. Years back, I tried Varget in a 30” 260Rem. I wasn’t able to get enough velocity. I switched to H4350, and it made a big difference.

I use 4350 142 gr pills 28 in barrel. works for me . Won 3 matches with this combo. Tommy Mc

RL16 has worked the same as H4350 for me. Easy to dispense and seems pretty speedy as well. It's worked just about like any other 4350 with 180's and 165's in a 30-06 or 140's in a 6.5 Swede.

A 130 Berger hunting is the only bullet I’ve shot out of one of my 6.5x47’s. Loaded with H4350 and a CCI 450. Gets me 2950 FPS out of a 26” Broughton. I’d try that combo for target and performs really good on whitetail as well.
