65gr Gameking 223 Rem Loads

G'day all,

Got some 65gr Gameking for my 223. Anyone got any load data they can share. Would like to use H4895 if able as thats my 55gr BK loads powder of choice and does very well both accuracy and MV wise.

Cheers in advance.

I haven't used H4895 with the SGK, but have used Varget with decent results. I would start around 24 grains and go up until you start to get good accuracy. In my opinion, I would try to get as much velocity as possible assuming good accuracy with this bullet (guessing you'll hunt with them).

I suppose you are from Australia, so that means you are using a bolt action more than likely. I have shot them out of AR's with better than moa accuracy and out of a new 223AI bolt action with .75" or better accuracy. I don't consider them a match bullet at all, but then again I don't spend the time trying for match grade performance from them either. I have a lot of them so maybe I should try harder.

Cheers mate.

Yeah from Australia. I'll work up this week and see how I go. Aiming for 1/2MOA really. Chasing MV over 3000 hopefully. Want this load to be for game at longer range.

3000 should be easy. I don't know what you will hunt at longer range with it, but good luck with it.

Also I don't doubt the bullet is capable of 1/2 moa. Like I mentioned already, I was seeing 3/4 moa, or better, without really working up a load. In fact, I was blowing brass for my 223AI (I didn’t want to use my "good bullets" for that).......

I am using 24.5 grains of H-4895 with these 65gr SBT bullets in my AR and they do about .75 moa with a velocity of 2892. I use Rem. 7 1/2 primers. This is a good bullet and does very well on varmints.

I shoot 26gr of Varget with the 65SGK out of a 10 twist Tikka. Pretty close to 3100fps. It takes 10MOA to get to 500yds.

I have a 27.5in barrel myself.

I'll start at 24gr and work up with a chrony and also aee where pressure is and back down and see how it goes.

Im planning on shooting rabbits, fox at longer ranges when the need arises.

Q-oz, plenty of barrel and H4895 should be the "cat's pajamas" with the 65. I run Varget with the heavier but consider it a tad slow for the mid-weights. JMHO

Well I finally got around to doing a MV test with the 65gr SGK. Here are my results. OSA Brass, CCI450 Primer, H4895.

25gr - 3050
25.4gr - 3092
25.8gr - 3178
26.2gr - 3241
26.6gr - 3283

Not much presure when I got to 26.6gr H4895. I couldnt believe it. Only just a touch of primer cratering. Primer still nice and round. Will do a accuracy test but unsure what MV to start at. Thinking around 3250fps as thats a known accurate node for 224 cal bullets.
