62 Gr Gold Dot

Has anyone tried the 62 Gr Speer Gold Dot in their 223 AI or a regular .223 ? Just wondering what powder you found to work best and what your results were. I saw this bullet tested on "Johnny's Reloading Bench" and very impressed with the expansion/mushroom tests . I bought a few boxes and I'm going to try them in my .223 AI with a 10" twist 22" barrel...

I am partial to H335/Win 748 as a starting point for 55-62 gr bullets in the 223. It is easy on barrels, makes great velocity, meters well, and generally provides excellent accuracy

Varget does work but is actually kind of slow for lighter weights, better suited for 75+ gr loads.

Thanks guys for all the good suggestions. I'm going to try them and see how they do.

Alliant: You are correct. I ordered mine directly from the Speer website....
Planning a trip to Lewiston Idaho this summer and hope to go thru the Speer plant while there. I've been thru the Hornady Plant in Grand Island, the Sierra Plant in Sedalia Mo. and both were a real learning experience. Thanks again for all the great suggestions....

Any idea what the barrel length was on that data?

Any idea on the pressures those loads run?

Yes, I know both of those things.

The test system was 24" SAAMI chamber test barrel.
SAAMI MAP (maximum average pressure) for 223 Rem is 55,000psi, so the loads are typically developed to a small percentage below the MAP.
