600yd scope preferences

I started shooting BR with a 6-24x Bushnell 4200. Really good scope, but not for the BR game. I never realized what a disadvantage I was at until I peered down a 32X scope and actually SAW the "X" ring (dot). The one time I tried it at 600yds, it was semi-useless, although I did manage a sub- three inch group.

I found a used Bausch and Lomb 36X fixed Power scope, and no longer feel disadvantaged. Best of all, it was under $400.

"Nightforce Benchrest 12-42x, and I prefer the NP-2DD reticle. Cry once."

Sometimes cry once isn't a choice though and it wasn't for me last time I bought a scope, I ended up going with a Sightron SII Big Sky 36X with FCH and it's wonderful.

People,
I am sorry to hear about your hunting trip, what a bummer :(
I haven't had that problems with the nsx I own although I haven't had it in all day long heavy rains either. I haven't had that problems with my S&Benders or Swarovski's or Ziess and I have had all of them in heavy rains and snow storms. I did have a hunting trip ruined by a nikon fogging up and another almost ruined by a burris laser scope that fogged up fortunately I had my .300wm with my 5-25x56PMII S&B with me :) Wait a minute you don't suppose there is a issue with Japanese glass do you?
I read on another forum someone had trouble with there fool proof can't miss Huskamaw scope fogging up and I also heard there glass is the same as NF ??? For BR work I might stick with NF but for hunting, especially once in a life time hunts I think I will stick with time proven European glass ;)

Thanks to everyone for the many opinions....after calling NF...the said that the BR models will be offered with 1/8th clicks around April 2011....therefore my decision is..........NF BR 12-42 NP2DD. Have to start clearing some of the guns from the safe for the purchase of my first NF. Thanks again

Richard,
There is a forum member that has what you are looking for I think,Wang243 has a 12-42 NF BR np2dd not sure if it is 1/8 or 1/4moa but I bought a gun and loading equipment from from him
that the scope was intended for and it was all in immaculate condition and packaged very well, I highly recommend Wang243.

Something that wasn't mentioned and might not be relevent, but if a person is brand new to prone shooting and has nothing to begin with, the price of a really good scope i(something I don't have yet) is no more than a decent set of front and rear iron sights with all the doo dads you can buy.

richard_123: The Nightforce benchrest models have always been offered with 1/8 moa clicks. It's the more costly NXS models that may soon be available with 1/8 rather than the usual 1/4 clicks. As you are talking about selling to finance purchase I did the same, selling off numerous varmint type scopes that I rarely used to purchase the Nightforces. The trade-off worked out well for me, as I've never regretted going with the Nightforces. people: Yes, an unfortunate experience, and one I would not be happy with either, but I can relate first hand knowledge of similar bumps in the road with other well known and respected brands of scopes also. Of all the many, many postings concerning NF on this site yours is one of the few that are negative, and I personally would not black list NF, or any other brand because of that.

Check out this place, my shooting partner and I bought two Nightforce scopes from here, we received a great deal.

As John O has implied, if you are not shooting F-Class, most of the NRA long range (800-1000yd) and medium range (500-600yd) matches are done with iron sights; very few matches are any/any, i.e. with scopes

steve: We have a lot of benchrest groundhog matches in my area, very popular & attendance continues to increase. When we're trying to consistantly hit a 2" dia. 10 ring at 500 yards, or 500 mtrs/547 yards at one of the clubs, the Nightforce 12-42x benchrest is a requirement, at least for me and the vast majority of other competitors. My son just competed in the Snowbird matches at Port Malabar Florida at 600 yards, and the vast majority of rifles were scope equipped. Check out the results on this sites Competition forum for the 3 day match.
