600-800 yard accuracy 6.5x47 Lapua vs 6.5 Creedmore

If you had to make the choice shooting at 600-800 yards using 130-140 grain Berger bullets, same rifle, action, barrel etc. which would you choose and why?

I had a friend talk that was shooting the 47 and he talk me into the CM. Larger case, factory available ammo. And now with Norma producing brass there is a choice beside Hornady. Running a Little Daddy brake the recoil in minimal.

The small primer does allow you to load to higher pressures, however with the slightly larger case you don't need to run pressure that high. Better barrel life. With the small primer you have the chance of blowing primers unless you run a bushing on your bolt. I don't have any regrets going with the CM. But I do enjoy the 6XC that I had built afterwards. The rounds are so close it can be a tough decision. Good luck with making a choice.

Love my 47 Lapua. Anyone who says the CM is just as accurate is kidding themselves. Don't let that come of as being to harsh. Its a good cartridge but this is a question of which is better for accuracy.

6.5X47 have done several of these rifles over the past 5 years . i have shot them in comp. and my customers have also . did a lot of work with the 47 with a friend of the PPC guys great Vel. with several different powders 130 & 140 gr bergers . with 30" barrel got just about everything going 2900 to 3000 fps and shot mid 2" groups 600 yds. and as said Lapua brass.

The only thing that keeps holding me up on this decision is that I currently shoot a .308 and have no problems getting components (brass) for it.
6.5x47 brass is virtually non existent. I read a thread here just yesterday that said it was available somewhere but when I clicked on the link it was already sold out.
Re-barreling to 6.5x47 won't do me much good if I can't find at least 100 pieces of brass somewhere.

Brass is hard to find but if you backorder some now you will have it before you get your reamer and the rifle built. Don't wait until you are ready to start shooting to start looking for brass.

A year ago, 6.5x47 brass was everywhere. I think it's hit critical mass where everyone is realizing what a truly outstanding cartridge the 6.5x47 is and there is a mini-run on the brass. GOOD news is the brass lasts forever. So, eventually, the brass situation will return to "plentiful."

Danny,
Good friends of mine went to the 260 Rem. due to the brass. Lapua is the only one making 6.5 x 47. Hornaday was the only one making 6.5 CM at the time. Lapua makes 260 Rem. and Bruno's has it in shock, or you can make 260 Rem from any 308 brass. They do very well at long range steel matches. www.Bangsteel.com

Danny,
I have been fighting the 6.5 Bug for a long time. I have shot a 6mmBR and 6BRX for a long time. The first long range steel match I shot, http://www.bangsteel.com/ I shot a 223AI ( only gun that I could shoot prone, my other gun are benchrest guns. ) The guy that won the match was shooting a 6.5 Grendle in a AR. That got me looking at a 6.5BR or 6.5BRX. Later in the year a added a bi-pod to my 6BRX benchgun and won the match with a clean score, one for one, in 7 shots out to 1060yds. For myself I can't go the cost of a new cal. when what I have, shoots like they do. I do have a new CBI 6BR barrel on my Savage for this year matches.

Good luck
