6 XC barrel life ?

I am a big 6 XC fan have several of them. Recently had Bob Green re-barrel my F class in the 6 XC and today looked at it with my bore scope and was surprised to see start of cracking with only 150-175 rounds. I'm curios what thats telling me? To hot of loads, bad barrel metal? I haven't got the barrel hot have not shot match only practice firings? I looked at another 6 XC with 250 rounds and it has less cracking also looked at a 6 x 47L with 800 rounds and it showed only a little more. Curious what the reason is? Any suggestions would be helpful.

The first question is how is the barrel shooting? If your groups are not changing, don't worry about it at all. If the barrel is starting to walk groups, or you see a sudden major trend in group size, then it's time to start asking questions.

It's an X Caliber barrel, thanks Tommie for the thread link, good info. I'm pushing 115 DTACs so that probably explains why the wear

Rcol317,

That XC I started the discussion about has 1900+ rounds on it now, .008 erosion and still shoots teeny tiny groups with the 107's. My personal opinion is my freebore, lead and shooting the 107's without hot rodding them, are saving it's life.. Plus good cleaning techniques

My second gun has 800+ rounds, same barrel and shows practically no sign of use.

Both guns won plenty of matches last season at 1000 and are very accurate. I'm very confident that the one barrel with 1900 Rounds is going to give me at least one more good season out of it... If not more. The other barrel is good for a couple more.. Looks like. Let's just say the jury is still out as I've yet to burn one up yet. They keep shooting great, so I'm going to shoot them until they don't. I have other barrels ready to screw on when they do!

Thanks, I'm sure it's because I'm shooting 115's I thought H4832 SC would be easier on it than H 4350 looks like I was wrong. I'll probably try to back if off or order another barrel? thanks for the input. Rick

Got 2000 rounds out of my Krieger 30inch 1:7.5 twist shooting Hbn coated DTAC 115s at MV=3000 with H4350. Throat erosion was so bad that I couldn't seat bullets out any further in the neck of the Norma brass.
