6 X 47 L Brass

Hi All,
Just joined up after reading here for awhile. Actually all the good info here prompted to me order a full custom 6X47L rifle and can hardly wait for it to arrive. My question is: 6X47L brass is nonexistant from what I have seen and many articles say to use 6.5X47L brass. That's fine but what sizing is needed? Can a Forster 6X47L sizer do it? If so do I have to turn them after that before loading them up? I firmly blame all you guys for my dilema as I was happy before, LOL. Just kidding. Any help is appreciated and yes I did a search but all the results were close but no cigar to my question. Happy Shooting

Welcome to the Board!

I am a 6x47 L owner and if you like your half as much as I like mine your going to have a great time!

I use a Forester 6x47L FL Die,just lube and run it through, easy and your gunsmith will build your rife for turn or no turn neck, depending on what you tell him. I ordered a tight neck,Turn) because I think it is a little bit more accurate. But I am sure someone will argue that.

Anyway Here are some loads and data from my rifle to get you started.

I use to think turning necks was the way to go for accuracy. NOT anymore, especially if your using Lapau brass. I would go with a regular no-turn neck 6x47L, and I bet your rifle will shoot just as good as the guy with a neck turned 6x47L. I have necked turned brass for many different cartridges and I found that it's not worth it. I just had a new custom 6BR built with a .272 no-turn neck, and I love it. My rifle is shooting in the .0's and .1's.

If your going to be doing a lot of benchrest comps, than I can see turning necks, because you want to eliminate all the variables. However, even if I were going to be shooting in a lot of comps, I still would not turn necks.

If you use an excellent smith and Lapua brass, you'll not need to turn your brass.

Thanks for the input guys. I plan on having the smith build it for no turn. I just wasn't sure if squeezing the 6.5 down would cause a build up of brass inside or outside the neck. I will trim to length for sure. I look forward to the new rifle and can hardly WAIT!!!! Also, thanks for the recipes, I have some 105 and 95 grain bullets so the experimentation will begin soon. Thanks again.
