6 WSM questions

Wondering if I could get a little Quick Load help. If a guy had a 6 WSM in a Savage pistol with a 14" 1 in 9" twist Krieger barrel and wanted to shoot 105 A-Maxes and/or 95 VLDs using Retumbo and Federal Magnum Match primers, where would you start and what does it say for maximum? How about nodes? Thank you for any and all replies. Looking like Quick Load should be on the Christmas wish list.

Danger Will Robinson, danger.

Well. Anyone with any sense should not give you too much on this. But.....

That's one stout cartridge for Pistol. Are you sure you don't mean 243 WSSM?

That said, I will have to make a model for the cartridge in QuickDesign then see what Quickload makes of it.

Not a chance I'll give you a charge weight. Sorry, I live in California.

However, I made a 6mm/270WSM model in QuickDesign using your parameters I'm amazed. With a 2.860 COAL I got something that should work.

1) Velocity is perfectly acceptable. Recoil, well that parts what you are after I guess.
2) Nodes using Retumbo, according to OBT should be found around 2500fps and 2875fps.

If you are an experienced reloader and wildcatter. I think you might be on to something. If this is your first one, I'd find a local mentor.

Have fun, be safe.

I have one in a 6br with 12'' 2400 fps. When I get nerve enough I am going to put my
300 ultra mag barrel on and try it a few times. The most fun I have had was with 30'' dasher.
at 1000 yds. Hand guns at 1000 yds will suprize you. Good shooting Larry

You might direct this question to the guys over on specialty pistols forum. I'm confident you will get feedback and probably load data as I'm sure it has been done.

Thanks jfseaman. That Quick Load is an amazing program. My buddy has been playing around with his 6 WSM all day and the load he settled on is 63.0 gr. Retumbo. His Chrony shows 2840 fps and it's shooting real tight at 100. Interesting to know if that's what QL told you for the charge. We'll find out next weekend how it shoots at 1000. Seems to me that he said 67.0 was where he was seeing signs of being close to max and that was around 3125 fps if I remember right.

skyav8r, thanks for the advice. I believe he put out a feeler over there also earlier today but hadn't had any luck yet. I'm looking at this site a lot and had a feeling someone would lend a hand. Thanks guys.

Oh ya, forget to mention that he has a brake on it. I dont think that matters for QL but it sure does as far as his face is concerned, hahaha.

Quick Load don't list it .QL says 7mm wsm holds 81 gr of water 6mm Aronold holds 80.5 Backing into the the figures I am giving you should give you some idea Do Not use them to LOAD
OL 95 vld 66gr of retumbo 50113 psi 2548 fps The only thing I am sure of Your handle is right
Good Shooting Larry
