6 ppc, what can I do with it?

Sako 6ppc coming my way, I understand the twist is 1/12, heavy stock barrel, older rifle but was not used much.

I do not reload 6 PPC, not sure I want to reload another caliber, the only 6mm I have is a Dasher. . I am thinking it can be re-chambered(Dasher, 243, other?), but the twist maybe the limiting factor knowing the bolt can be opened up. Maybe I should leave alone.

What are your thoughts, what can I do to make it more functional for me, using what I have.

6AI not familiar, will read up

Gun was a hand me down, If it is not practical to change it then it will go to someone else, maybe just put it away. Was curious about options.

its not practical to change it to anything but a 220 russian based case- ppc, grendel, 7.62x39 variant. nothing you could buy off the shelf except AK blasting ammo. you can get enough for it to buy a nice rifle in any caliber you want

Makes sense.......maybe best left original

Sell it to someone who will use it and appreciate it for its purpose

A good possibility, will think this over, did not need another caliber, nor the time for another activity........:( Thank you for the advice.

I agree. The value on those rifles is continually rising. Would be a shame to alter it. I have a completely factory original 1968 Ruger M77 Red Pad in 6mm Reminton with the 24" heavy varmint barrel. Mint condition. Twist is slower than I like, wont shoot anything over 87gr V-Maxes very well, but I wouldn't alter that rifle for anything.

I would just keep the Sako a 6 PPC and run light bullets out of it like it was meant to be. Tons of reloading dies and brass readily available on the market for 6 PPC. It would make a great varmint rifle :)

I agree with several others, Sako makes a damn fine rifle. Please sell it or use as trade fodder, they are to nice to butcher. Not exactly benchrest material, they do shoot very well typically, would be a great early rifle for new or maybe recoil sensitive shooters. If it is a heavy barrel gun, it would probably be a very good short range PD or small Varmint shooter from a bench using a bipod.

I find it interesting that everyone says don't molest it, but I bet there are guys who wouldn't think twice about burning it up in UBR factory class. Then it's re-barrel and shoot modified?

Once its too worn to win a varminter will still love to have it and itll still be more accurate than most factory rifles. But i doubt youll see one in that shape at an ubr match

I'm not the sentimental type, so I'd shoot it up then re-barrel it.

I had an old Forester bedded and had pillars installed to try and make it shoot better. I thought the Sako police might come to my house and strip me of the rifle because I didn't leave it in its natural state.:p

I have one of these thats pristine. Less than 100 rds fired.
No factory box.$1500.00 delivered. PM me if interested. LDS

Buy a set of dies and a shell holder and load some of Barts 68 bt. and it will be the best shooting gun you have.... jim
