6 mm TCU/ .25 TCU

Hi everyone. I am thinking of rebarreling a .222 into either one of these, so I am just looking for some loading data with different weight bullets. I am looking for a rifle that will handle goats and pigs with a little more ease than the .222, but only out to 200 yards or so. This is more just a rifle that I can cart around because its light, with minimal noise, recoil etc, sort of an all rounder for Australia.
I already have a very accurate rem 700 in .222 so I was thinking one of these would be novel, and sort of breach the gap between the .222 and the .270
Any help is much appreciated
Cheers
Steve

i have a 6x45 and a 6 tcu. pretty much you can get another 100 fps or so from the same weight 6mm bullet as a 224 bullet. You can shoot 80-85 grain hunting bullets @ mag length and load fairly warm to shoot animals up to deer.

Hi there Chris, thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting Pac-nor to send me a 24" long 3 groove 8" twist barrel do you think that this set up would be able to handle 80-90 grain bullets?
Cheers

Check out the 7 TCU. I have used the 7 for several years with 120/130 gr tips.

With 24" barrel it has proven deadly on deer out to 200 yards.

I use it in a TC Contener. Good for about 1" @ 100 yards.

I have found the 7 to be much better than the 6 mm. With the lower vel of these small case capacites the heavier bullet helps.

Hi Octopus, The reason that I was thinking of the 6mm TCU is that I already own a .222, a .17 rem and a .204 ruger, in addition to my .270 and .338 win mag. I was hoping for a reasonably quiet round with enough energy at 200 meters to take medium sized game with well placed shots. Basicaly I am looking to build a small game rifle that in a pinch can also take on some bigger stuff, with good shot placement.
Thanks for your advice though, it was much appreciated
Cheers Steve

I have never loaded anything heaver than 70 gr bullets, but AA 2015 and 70 gr B-tip will travel close to 3300 fps. The only thing that I had the opportunity to shoot in the way of heavy game was a 14 lb woodchuck . Never even twitched. I like the the TCU but prefer the 6ppc for better accuracy. We have a man in New York State that makes 45 gr 6mm bullets, loaded in the PPC they absolutely screem 4000+ fps using AA1680 powder
