6 mm SLR case forming problem

While waiting for my reamer I decided to practice forming cases. I have some old Winchester 243 brass shot numerous times. Following the instructions I was able to form this brass correctly. It took some practice and some of the necks split but it is old brass. It did come out shorter than 2.025" but it may have been short when I started.

Emboldened by my success I opened a package of new Winchester brass and went to work. Well after 25 cases it is s disaster. Every one has a ridge indent around the case just below the case / shoulder junction and the OAL is shorter than 2.025". I tried more One Shot, less One Shot, let it dry over night. I even tried my trusty Imperial Wax. Nothing changed. One of the reasons I selected this wildcat was because it is advertised that fire forming is not necessary. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Your brass will be fine. It looks that way when you first size it, but after you shoot it, it looks just like it is supposed to. I shot a match with mine loaded with the ridge(new brass just ran through the die) and shot a 199 at 600 (43.5g H4831 with 105 Hybrid).

You should be fine.

I've seen some of that too, kinda weird, but like mentioned above it comes out after firing. I also used to get dents in the shoulders, but i was using too much imperial. I cleaned the die and use just a tiny amount....actually i switched to oneshot and keep it light.

Some lots were a liitle weird, but most have given textbook results.

Good luck!

Agree with both of the above posters. Go ahead and work up your load with the newly formed brass. After fired they will look great and you won't see a nickle's worth of difference on the next reload.

I might add that I didn't get the little dents just below the shoulder with PRVI brass that I used for my first 6SLR, but I got the dents with Winchester brass that I used for my second 6SLR.
