I think the PPC gets overlooked in the varmint fields because it is used primarily in BR. But i just can't forget that BR originated with woodchuck hunters trying to make more accurate guns. So now we have a great BR cartridge and don't use it on varmints??? Makes no sense.

I suspect you meant a 40X with a McMillan barrel. It should be fine for groundhogs. I shoot an old 22PPC for chucks and it performs very well.

I shot many thousands of 6PPC on dog towns, jack rabbits, retired BR rig, RBLP Panda.

I soon found that 60g Sierra's(3600), 55g Noslers, 60g Bergers would allow me minute of p. dog head at 300 yards. The 55g Nosler is very impressive to say the least.

I used H335, CCI 450 with lapua or Sako brass, and 9 1/2 with formed PMC 7.62x39 brass. Warning, PMC is the only brand of the large rifle brass that is worth dealing with due to soft case heads. Of course, Lapua makes large rifle 7.62x39 brass but what is the point unless you get it for darn near free.

I had so much PMC brass I had a zero freebore reamer made, which works very well with the short bullets.

H335 burns VERY clean and will give you 10K of barrel life in this case as long as shooting in the 2's is all you ask of it.

If I found a great deal on a slightly used 6PPC, I would at least entertain the idea of punching it out to 6 BR unless the bolt head conversion was prohibitive. Often a bolt head is used for either case.

good luck to ya!
