6 dasher RL15 vs varget

Yes…… and it shoots better for me. I also find Varget dirty, i use it for fire forming and the patches come out black……. jim

While I'm not shooting a dasher, I have two BRX's. One prefers re15 w/ 107 smk @ 2975 out of a 30" barrel and the other prefers varget w/ 105 hybrid @ 2975 out of a 27" barrel. Let the barrel tell you what to use.

Amazing, but no two barrels are exactly alike.

I have had similiar situations like Scott stated above.

Yes, and save your money. You will need a 10" drop tube or it will push the bullets back out…….. jim

Ok thank you. So if you were shooting say from 55-105 degrees, would you expect any temperature sensitivity?

RL-15 seems to thrive on pressure, and it doesn't seem to affect the accuracy till you get sticky bolt. I have learned that if i drop .1 above 90 degrees it seems to be fine. i have never went to 100 because i can't take it so it's not an issue for me…….. jim

I wish I could tell you but I haven't seen RL15 in stock anywhere since I picked up my dasher in May. It shoots Varget well fortunately.

Good luck!

Norma makes Alliant RL15 and their N-203B is apparently very similar, (extremely) similar, so try some of that if your wanting to test RL15.

Judd, What i found next to RL-15 was H4895 it is very good,to the point it was a hard decision between it and RL-15…… it shoots very small….jim

Thanks guys...I actually bought 8lbs of MR2000 that I thought I would try and ran into some 4064 and 4320. I figure it is all worth trying.

Sorry to hijack a bit but 2 years ago when I started playing this game I was trying to buy a 1k primers and 8lbs of 1 powder and a buddy of mine that drug me into this was laughing and said I can't wait to see what your reloading room looks like in a few years. Well let's just say....I can't believe how much powder/primers/brass I have accumulated for everything. I wish it would all shoot little then I could settle :) The lot swings were a real eye opener for me.

Anyway, sorry to sidetrack a bit.

Hi Johara, me again. Wondering where to start with charge weight for 4895 in 6 dasher with 105 HB's if you would share....
thanks much

Judd, with a Dasher you only need RL-15, cci 450's Spencer bullets and 500 Lapua cases. A dozen barrels also…… ;)….. jim

Judd, i used 32.7 of H 4895 with the 105 hybrids and a cci 450. I would start a grain less, they just shot in a hole…… jim

Thanks much again Johara...right now 32.8 gr of varget seem to work pretty good but always looking for a little better

I have 1 barrel (1200 rounds so far) of experience with the Dasher. I have loaded 105 Hybrids with H4895, Varget and RL15. Freebore on my chamber is .104", Kreiger barrel w/.237" bore. Primers used are CCI450's and BR4's.

All 3 powders give excellent accuracy with both primers and the bullets seated .010" off the lands from touch for all combinations. I get the same velocity with the same weight charges of RL15 and Varget. About .7 grains less of H4895 matches velocity of the other 2 powders.

Evidently, I have a FAST barrel. Am getting 3010 f.p.s. with 32.3 grains of RL15 and Varget and 31.6 grains of H4895.

Have shot and competed with 107 SMK's as well and results are very good with these bullets too.

Among the folks that I shoot against....1, 2 or all of the above powders will give you outstanding results. Just gotta find what your gun likes, and please, always start load development low until you find what charges your barrel will run safely with.

With a short free bore is the reason you your load would be less, i use a .155 and .135 now. I dropped .2 from .155 to .135 and .104 would be a lot less….. jim

I load for the most accurate not the fastest. I can a did run them a lot faster but i found it shot smaller and bucked the wind better slower. With a short free bore you build pressure faster and you get the heel of the boat tail back past the sized part of the neck and that doesn't lend it self to accuracy. I you jump them you are really in bad shape with a .104 FB. and 105 Berger hybrid. If the heel of the bullet is not back there your free bore is longer than you think…. Do not believe what is written on the reamer, you need a optical comparator …… jim
