6 Dasher project near complete

All:

I have been building a blueprinted 6 Dasher on a Remington action, and thought that some might be interested in the link to the page on my web site that displays the project blog.

The hope is to be able to get the break in and load development started next weekend. Figuring out the expand-then-resize process for the fireforming of the cases will be done this week as well. If anyone has done this,I've read the article on the site here), your comments/advice would be welcome. The first trial with the Redding S-bushing die didn't seem to get the false shoulder down far enough on the neck.

More posts forthcoming, when it gets farther along.

Cheers,

Chris

Rifle is complete. Visit the link above for final pictures. Next weekend is breakin and fireforming!

Gunamonth:

Thanks for the information. I seem to have the die set now, and I'll try the false shoulder method first. Either way is easy. I could try and get a takeoff 6mm factory barrel and re-chamber with my reamer for fireforming. I have the headspace set right at the minimum, and can just feel a bit of drag on the go-gage. Should be easy to reproduce in the throw-away barrel. However, my other AI rifles shot like gangbusters when fireforming, so I may not have to go that route. I'll post the results when I get them.

Cheers,

Range test results here, at the bottom of the page.

Very pleased so far, especially with the tolerance to the load conditions that the cartridge exhibits. I'll be testing lads in fireformed cases next.

I did use the expand-then-resize method to set the depth for initial fireform, and found it to be very easy. I used a 25 caliber mandrel, so the neck "working" is at a minimum. Lost only 2 out of 170, with case lengths varying by only +- 0.001".

Cheers,

Chris
