6 Dasher New Build Questions

I am no Guru. But I can suggest checking into some Alpha brass. I am very happy with mine......

Regards
Rick
Actually, that's one of my questions.
I plan on Alpha brass, but some are saying you need an Alpha chamber. ???
I'm ordering a Criterion pre fit for my Savage 12FTR. Have no idea about the chamber.

The newer OCD Alpha brass has thicker necks than Lapua 6BR brass necked up - 0.269" vs 0.266" based on measurements of what I have. You either need a reamer with enough clearance or you need to turn necks on Alpha.

Thanks. That explains it. I'm looking to buy Dasher brass and not have to fire form.

Just starting into dasher. Old 308 guy here.
1st....using a Hornady OAL gauge to find the lands, how can I determine which gauge bushing to use for a Dasher?
Hornady does not make one.
I know I can jam a bullet and work back from there, but I don't like that method.
2nd....who makes the best reamer for dasher with Alpha brass?

I use a stripped bolt to to determine "touch" . https://www.wheeleraccuracy.com/videos see the "finding the lands" video at the link.
I admit I have no idea what a gauge bushing is? I can say that from my experience with a stony point tool, when you feel touch, you are likely .010" in the lands already.

I shoot with a bunch of dasher guys and I have had a pile of barrels chambered with 6 differeent reamers over the last few years, Alpha Dasher brass works well in all of them. I do clean-up the necks of my brass so neck thickness really is not an issue for me. I run .272" necks for most of my chambers now and have started moving toward .273" . If you are looking for a no-turn reamer, I do not know the answer. However, I would bet lots of the dasher shooters have traveled that road and will be along soon.

Dashers are no good! If you are going to shoot against me I suggest the 30-30 Win. It's been around since the beginning of time!! ;)

Actually, the Dasher allowed me to win. a national title. Had to be the Dasher because I am not that good. I am using both Lapua and Alpha in several different tubes chambered with the same reamer. No issues.... They are .2715 necks.

The problem now is that there are elevntyseven different powders and twelveteen different bullets that all work well in the dasher. I am thinking about taking the EENY MEENY MINY MOE APPROACH picking components.

Dashers are/were king of the 600/1000 yard BR game and closing in on King of PRS. Not sure about F class, but think they would do just fine.

Ask away and good luck (with the 30-30 :))

Alpha OCD, Peterson and Lapua 6BR formed to 6 dasher, have all worked great for us in the past. Just be aware that they contain different internal volumes and behave differently. Don’t think you can take your load in you Lapua brass and use the same load in your Peterson, because you can’t.

My Dasher has a Kreger barrel with a No Neck Turn chamber. I have never had any issues with Alpha or Peterson brass. I am jumping about 0.010". Both Varget and SW Precision and CCI 450's have given me great results. That said I have seen shooters win 600 yd. BR while fire forming 6 BRA cases. I have 1,200+ rounds on my barrel and it still shoots.

Piggy backing off the OP’s thread. I am also looking at the dasher for the first time. Sounds like there may be some different NK clearance requirements depending on the brass used.

Are there various versions of the dasher that I need to be aware of? Maybe variations in the base of the case, etc?

For example the 6XC and the 6BRX have a couple variations of each cartridge in the base area and you have to make sure that your reamer matches the dies so you can FL size the brass properly.

Thanks,

-Trevor

I use Alpha brass in my 2 Dashers and am very pleased with it. JGS made my reamer. It was either .273 or .274 (can’t remember) but no neck turning required.
