6 Dasher/Neck turning???

Phil

Gold $$ Contributor
OK....So here is my question.....

When you are forming 6 Dasher cases(i`m going with the neck up,then back down method) at what point do you do your neck turning, before or after expanding them to 6.5mm?????

Thanks,

Phil.

I turn my brass right out of the box as new 6br brass, right down into the shoulder.
Then I chamfer inside neck and expand to .257 and then back down with my bushing neck die ;D

Brian,

Wouldn`t that make for a thinner, than the rest of the body, portion of the neck???

What do you turn your necks to??

I turn to .011 basically a clean-up, If you do it after it is fromed in to a Dasher case you run into donut issues. ;D

You will be a little thinner in the shoulder area, but I haven't seen any issues with that. ;D

Brian,

If it`s working for you i`ll try it...

Sounds like the simplest way too.......

I was thinking .011 or .012 as a clean up for my necks too.

Thanks,

Phil.

I will 2nd the neck turn all the way to the shoulder. No problems with the brass near the shoulder/neck junction being a tad thinner, but definitely no donut concerns.

I turned new 6 BR brass down to the shoulder also when I made my Dasher a couple years ago.
Then I used Hornady's hydraulic form die to make the brass.
I used the same thought process as Brian--keep the donuts out of the neck.
I'm still using the first 200 I formed, and they've been reloaded about 5 times and all is good.
So with my experience, I think it works well.
