6 dasher for medium game

I'm going to build one more rifle to use as my all-around go to gun. Due to a physical disability my shooting and hunting has been drastically reduced. I've had to convert from right to left handed and I'm somewhat limited in my tolerance for recoil. Here's my idea:
Left-handed Rem. 700
!-8 twist ss. shilen #4 contour cut to 21" with break
B/C Mtn. rile stock
Probably start with Barnes 85gr TTXX and try different bullets till I find one the rifle likes
Rifle will be used primarily for whitetail deer with maybe a varmint or two if the opportunity presents it's self. Your thoughts and opinions please. Load suggestions/ velocity guesses also welcome.

If it is going to be a repeater I would like to know if it will feed ok.

You will like the Dasher for the all-round use you were talking about. My choice would be Berger 87gr hunting VLD's. They seem to shoot good in a couple of my guns. I have a varmint rifle chambered in 6BRX with a 24 inch barrel and they do well in it. BRX and Dasher loads are basically the same. 34gr of 8208XBR is my load and it gives me a muzzle velocity of 3186fps. I use CCI-450 primers. Start lower with your load and check for pressure. You should get over 3000fps with load in your barrel.

There are other bullets that work well for what you want, 87gr V-Max, 80gr flat base, etc.

Enjoy the gun. You will love the Dasher. It will surprise you with it's accuracy.

By the way, I live in NW NC. Send me a PM.

Larry

I built one on a Marlin X7 action with a Rockcreek 5R barrel a couple years ago and use it year around. 87 gr Vmax for coyotes and crows, 100 gr Hornady IL for deer. It feeds fine and is very accurate. Good luck on your project. Barlow

If you are building an all around hunting gun, I would pick the 6x47L. Dasher will work awesome don't get me wrong but here are the advantages of using the 6x47L.

No Firefroming and simple brass prep
100-150 FPS on top of Dasher
3100+ with a 105 grn VLD
No questions or issues regarding feeding
Can seat the bullets long and they still fit into a 700 mag

My 6x47L is by far my favorite rifle and is undoubtedly my go to rifle.

Unless you're shooting deer well past 400 yards, you can use a 6BR and skip the fireforming. I've shot quite a few deer and pronghorns with my 6BR using 85gr TSX over 31.6gr Varget 0.025 off the lands.

By late summer bullets.com should be selling factory Dasher brass. I have modified the Cabela's Kwik Klip detachable magazines to reliably feed 6 Dasher for my hunting rifle. I shoot 105 VLD's to max length and they fit in my modified magazines. Modifying Wyatt's Outdoor BR boxes by installing a .223 mag box spacer also works. Caveat is they only hold 2 in the box and are unhandy to load. If you are in and out of a vehicle alot, that can be irritating. Friend of mine shot a deer last season with 95 gr Berger hunting VLD's and the wound channel was impressive. I really like the Dashers. If some company were to develop and market a detachable magazine to feed them reliably it would be great.

The 85 HPBT Sierra is a proven deer bullet along with the 105 A-Max. I use a straight 6BR with 105 class bullet for crop damage and it works well. Don't let the accuracy get you in trouble it's easy to let the accuracy outrun it Azz:)

I'm counting on the factory 6 Dasher brass. Probably gonna chamber for a no-turn neck to eliminate the neck turning process. I've shot deer with several different calibers and various bullet weights of Berger VLDs. In doing so I've never been disappointed with the wound channel or the results !!

This sums up the whole thing, thanks timeout, I have investigated it to no end. You have nailed what everyone knows actually!
If there was an action or magazine conversion that worked great with the Remington 7oo action to take advantage of the BR and modified versions. This strongly suggests that "SOMEONE/ELSE" has stooped this being done!
This type of magazine can supposedly be had for $2 to 300 or more, that’s totally ridiculous pricing!!

IF custom action manufactures can build a Remington 700 (modified), then Remington needs to get off there donkey and better the competition or sell the company to who can in the USA!

My suggestion is THIS: Write your congressman/Remington/anyone you are dissatisfied with and say where you stand on gun issues.
If a Democrat tries to talk/convert/or even speak to you, drop him/her like a HOT rock!!

They are "democrats" coming at you from all angles, they have ONE purpose and that is the voting polls to get all of you to vote a Democratic and END your ability to own, or forever use fire arms.

We have an upcoming presidential election, you better damn well think/read long and hard about what these YUPPIE idiots have already done to this country in the last 8 years, Think about it ! FOOD is outrageous!
The supermarkets are using what is called "Computerized pricing increases" what this means is when someone buys something the computer then sends this message to a spread sheet/data base where it is analyzed!

If someone bought the product then the product price go's up and will continue to go UP till people stop buying!

I am probably going to be "Zapped" by the administrator so I might as well stop here.
However I would like everyone to know that what I have said is all the truth!

VOTE REPUBLICAN ALL THE WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything I have told you guys is the truth, I give you my word!

Does this mean you don't think he should build a Dasher, he should/shouldn't buy groceries, or he should start a protest outside Remington because they don't make a magazine that will feed a BR sized case?

Maybe I misunderstood the truth you were assuring us of :o

Have a good weekend!

I really like the x47 Lapua case for a repeater short action,,it will fit in a Rem factory internal box and feeds fantastic from AICS 308 mags as well,,you can even load the 140 Hybirds in 6.5 or DTACS in the 6 and fit the mags perfect,
I am thinking about doing the same rifle as you except going 6.5x47 and have it throated for the 100 NBT but a 6 version for the 75-100 class bullets would be good on deer size game,,accuracy should be a wash with a good barrel and chamber job and recoil with a brake should be none,,

I have nearly 500 Dasher brass all FF and ready to load. I shot them out of my (new Krieger) "ff bbl" which is nothing more than my backup Dasher tube to the the one I won Nationals with. All I use it for now is to FF Dasher brass because it is THE MOST ACCURATE COMBO I OWN. And the brass is as perfect as I can make it....very, very little run out.

That being said, any gun I build for a "hunting" gun will be another 6-47L. Love them to death for accuracy, feeding, and velocity. Making the brass is very simple and takes only one extra step on the press to form than any factory caliber. I will just keep the Dasher brass on the shelf until I need it.

I rarely post but feel it is necessary to debunk the myth that the dasher round does not feed. I have been shooting a 6 dasher in PRS and PRS type competition for a year and have never once had a issue with feeding. I run a Stiller tac 30 with PTG DBM and Unaltered AICS Mags shooting 105 VLD's. At the OPPS Shoot for the Green it was won with a dasher fed out of a AICS magazine. Quote from Matt Parry winner of the OPPS Shoot winner "I have put them in there every way possible and they still feed just fine" speaking about the Dasher. As to the question it is just like any 6mm out there going 2950 fps it will perform well on game I have personally shot many game animals with the 105 Berger hunting VLD's with great results including a deer at 500 yards. Good luck with your build you will love the round and Thank You for the platform now I will retreat back to my lurker status.

I took a 180 pound whitetail this year with a 6 br with a 105 Amax and was Very impressed with the cartridge and bullet performance.

Question for the 6x47 Lapua shooters.........

Why not just leave them at 6.5?????

Nosler makes a 100gr. ballistic tip hunting bullet......

Not criticizing, just curious.

Phil.

PS.......Sorry to de-rail the thread.

BC of .532 on the 6mm 105 VLD vs the .350 on the 6.5 100 grn nosler would be one key reason. And for two, if I was building a 6.5mm then it would be to shoot the 130-140 grain bullets at a higher velocity than the 6.5x47 can drive them, therefore I would have done a 6.5x284. But that was impractical for the purpose of my rifle.
