6 Dasher for hunting???

I'm running 75g V-max's at 3500fps from my 6mm-250, which has about the same powder capacity as the dasher. I am going to try some of the Sierra 85g hpbt game kings next. They have a good reputation for killing deer.

I'd try the 85 gr Sierra too, but I have a slug of other stuff to shoot up and I probably won't live long enough get thru them all. Barlow

Here's my reason why not to use it for hunting...and exceptions. It doesn't have enough energy for large animals much past 400 yards but it has accuracy to hit your target well beyond that. if you're going to use a match quality rifle for hunting and have ability to hit your target well beyond 500 yards, use a higher energy round. To me the most logical hunting round from the target world is the 6.5x284. That round is high energy, extremely accurate and it's real downside is that it has a reputation as a barrel burner. But you don't fire your hunting rifle that much so the downside goes away.

Now if you're popping gophers of coyotes at long range, then the Dasher is fine.

If you're hunting whitetails at 300 yards and just want to be very accurate, then the dasher is fine.

You really shouldn't need more than one shot.

A 44-Magnum with Hornady 240 gr XTP Ammo has 971-ft.lbs. of energy at the muzzle.
A 105-VLD at 3000-fps has over 1000-ft.lbs of energy at 600 yards.

The Dasher has the same energy at 500 yards with 105 gr. bullet as a 30-30 Winchester does at 100 yards with 150 gr. bullet.

Build the Dasher, but you will need a Sako extractor to properly eject those small cases.

My daughter uses a loaded down 6x47 Lapua with 85 gr. Interbonds at 2,800 fps and she has shot a spike buck at 90 yards and a 150 lb. hog at 130 yards. Both one shot kills and they dropped where they stood.

Build it and go hunting. I've been using a 6br for a while now and have culled a considerable amount of does with it. In my experience, it has done a fine job and like any other cartridge it has its limits. My take on it is know your limitations and application. There is a lot of truth to what Carlsbad is saying about higher energy rounds at longer range, they will pull you through more often than a small light cartridges, in the event of a marginal hit, BUT, I would not use this as a reason not to hunt a BR or Dasher, just remember if you are shooting long don't get over confident due to accuracy. I remember several dead calm evenings stretching it farther than I probably should have based on accuracy.

Energy is FAR less important than 1. shot placement, 2. proper bullet choice, and 3. ensuring said bullet hits its target with velocity sufficient for it to perform as designed.

1. Shot placement- just above nostrils. 2. Proper bullet choice- 87gr vmax. 3. Ensuring said bullet hits its target with velocity sufficient to perform as designed- ahhh looks like it was sufficient...

I do enjoy using the dasher as a predator rifle.

I was/am extremely interested in the Dasher. The only thing that holds me back is it's lack of reliable function in a repeating action relative to hunting. I mean Remington 700 or any existing custom action!
Some individuals have stated that modification or available to make it function reliably as a repeater but when questioned there has never been a response as to how.

Not trying to be a jerk, but we should all help each other regardless of the goal we are trying to reach!

Here is my fix for getting a 6 dasher to work for my rem 700 that works as per the above photos.

1. Get a 308 AI mag.
2. Load bullets into it and go shooting.

There are no issues with it working from the mag as they come. Longer loaded rounds do function a little better but the short 55gr ballistic tips still cycle fine.

The main problem with the rem action I feel is that it needs a sako style extractor installed on the bolt. Other than that it works fine.
