did a bit of searching re winchester super grex shot buffer. it is added to shot in a shotgun shell to ? "buffer" the shot. the stuff is ground polyethylene that melts at 425 degrees F. seems some blackpowder shooters add it over smokeless powder used in vintage blackpowder cartridges shooting lead or gas checked bullets. they add just enough to keep the smokeless powder in the bottom of the case and bullet base touching the filler. they also use or used to use cream of wheat, Kapok or some form of Dacron to achieve the same effect. they suggested the material would seal a loose fit between bullet and bore and reduce gas blowby and leading of the barrel. pressures would increase so adjusting powder charges was advised. BAM! this hit me! many years ago i was loading something and the charge left a large empty space, so i filled it with super grex . the load was NOW too hot, so i gave up on that project. i weighed the cow needed to fill a 22 BR case at 28 gr, weight of super grex is 13.8 gr. the stuff is light and doesn't compress easily. i saw no residue in the cases and the bore looked normal. think i'll use it instead of cow.
