6 Dasher COL Question

Gentlemen,
I am currently having a 6 Dasher being built. I will be using a F-Class Panda Action with a 28” straight Brux Barrel (1-7). I will be using Peterson Brass & Berger 105 Hybrids. My gunsmith told me that if I send him a dummy round he will chamber the barrel to it. This is a new caliber for me and I could use some suggestions. What overall length should I make the dummy round? Any advice would be appreciated.

Peterson brass is under-sized and will grow when you fire-form to your barrel. That's not necessarily a bad thing for setting throat as you will want it as short as possible to begin with, giving you room to grow as the throat wears. Load a dummy round or two with the bullet you'll be using, seating until the heel of the bullet (where the boat tail starts) is just at the juncture of neck/shoulder. That way you'll start out with the ability to chase it for more rounds.
Also, Hybrids don't necessarily like being jammed. My best 1,000 yard group came from an end of life Dasher barrel and hybrids. I know there was no way I could have ever gotten them into those lands!

Overall length will depend on your freebore and your relationship to the lands. My chamber has a .140 freebore and with the bullet in the lands .005 my overall length is 2.41
