6 Dasher build questions

I've been doing some reading on an extremely accurate round for out to 1000 yards and it seems the Dasher is the one always showing up near the top. I'm more of a prone shooter than BR. I can run a rifle well and have a 6.5 Saum and 338 Lapua that are very accurate. Both are tactical builds.

So, I want a 6 Dasher in a tactical build (mcmillan A5, badger DBM, etc.) but was wondering what can be expected if these are made in a magazine fed rifle? To be honest, I would likely single feed it most of the time, but would like a magazine to feed from sometimes.

I've read some had great success modifying a 223 AI mag to get a 5 rd Dasher or BR magazine. Just wanted to put this up here to get some first hand accounts. Not sure on the builder yet, thinking GA Precision or LA precision (wnroscoe)

Brass prep is not an issue, as this would just be a gun to tinker around with and hopefully turn out some very small groups with good barrel life.

105 hybrids, 108 BT style bullets would be used. .268 neck, .135 FB sound about right?

Thanks for any guidance

Alan

If you want a repeater call Gary and build a tube gun, they flat hammer…… You pm me and i'll give you all the info. you will ever need on a Dasher…….. jim

Im using a dasher with 55gr noslers as a varmint gun in a 308 AI mag. They do cycle with that magazine. Would I use them in comeptition where I need the gun to feed flawlessly? No. But for a varmint gun its good.

I don't know how well a Dasher will feed out of a magazine. I'm fixing to build one myself for hunting but I don't know how it will work out.
Many tactical shooters go with the 6.5x47 Lapua. They feed reliably and are also extremely accurate.

Is the 6.5X47 more accurate than the Dasher? ::)

This question comes up every other day......

I've put together several 22 and 6 Dasher, all on 700's, all fed fine with no magazine alterations. I found them to feed best when treated like a 30-30 lever, no dilly dallying working the bolt, and life is good. I would never put up with a coyote gun that didn't feed.....

Eric, what is extremely accurate to you? mine is 5- 2"groups in a row at 1000 yds…... ;)….. jim

It depends on dicipline. Apparently Dasher does well in LR BR, but not so well in short range BR or LR F-Open. Tactical guys use 6.5x47's and for their game they are very accurate. The Dasher can not do it.

Erik, Erik, Erik... The Dasher can do it, has done it and will continue to do it at LR F-Open. Yes, the big guns are better in wind, but on a good day, Dasher will shoot with, if not out shoot the bigger guns. I've done it, and you've seen it before...

Tony..I don't think anything is more accurate than the Dasher..it holds all the IBS records.

In your hands for sure, Jim. I actually just had a Dasher put on one of my rifles for mid-range.

Tony, It isn't me,it is the attention to details,we will talk again on some important thing in loading….. ;)…. jim
Eric, OK, we are talking about pure accuracy,I had the 6.5x47 and in the same discipline….. it isn't close it was a 1/4 min. gun…..jim

Jim, you've done well with the Dasher in MR as have many others, but in LR not so much. No doubt the Dasher will shoot in calm conditions, but how many times has it been calm for two or three days straight? F-Class is an agg game, and the Dasher doesn't agg as well in the wind as the bigger guns.

Look at the results for the 2013 CA LR match. Day one was calm and a Dasher dropped 3 or 4 points for the day, which is excellent shooting at 1,000 yards. However, Steven Blair out X'ed him with a 300 WSM and the next day when the wind started blowing, the Dasher fell so far behind that it didn't even place.

So, would you put the Dasher against a .300 WSM or .284 in LR F-Class for 4 days straight and expect to win? Or against a 6PPC in short range BR?

Like I said, it has to do with the discipline.

1/4 MOA gun, isn't that 2.5" at 1,000 yards?
Have you never had a Dasher that shot bigger than 1/4 MOA?

Like I told you before, if I was shooting BR, I would likely be shooting a Dasher because it dominates in BR, but since I don't shoot BR and the Dasher doesn't dominate in F-Class, then I shoot what does better, which is 7mm's and big 30's.

Why do you guys always turn this into a BR/F-Class pissing match?

The OP wants to build a tactical gun in 6 Dasher, and was wanting to know about the feeding. I posted my results with the guns I've put together. You guys turn the thread upside down in a couple of posts......

Eric,

How come you join in on every Dasher topic, and basically condemn it to death?
It's very apparent that the Dasher's success bother's you..... to say the least.

My advise to you is, build one and join in or leave it alone all together.....

The Dashers success does not bother me, it bothers me when people think that the Dasher will do well in F-Class just because it does well in BR. My point is that it's simply not true and there is strong evidence that they ignore.

I am in the process of building a Dasher for hunting in South Texas. I think it will do great on whitetails, hogs, and coyotes. :)

And yes, I have a 6.5x47 that I use for hunting now and it's great, but the recoil from a full power load with 140's is too much for a young shooter, so the Dasher will double as an entry gun for new shooters.

Alf, I will be contacting you if you don't mind because obviously you know how to make them work. I've been looking at the McMillan Edge stock for mine.
