6 Dash neck dia / bushing

garandman

Bolt Gun Bodacious
Got my Peterson brass. Unfired neck o/s diameter avgs. 0.264

Fired o/s neck dia = 0.2685 (avg, from 0.268 - 0.269)

I've ordered 0.265 - 0.268 neck bushings.

The unfired case seats bullets moderately firmly, using an arbor press. I dont have a force pack / gauge yet on the press. Whatta ya think I should use for my neck bushing in my sizing die ? Any danger of bullet pushback into the case on chambering if too little neck tension? (I mean, of course there is, but... ) Would sizing it back down to 0.264 tend to work the brass too much? Whats the balance btwn too loose vs. over working brass ? Something annealing will fix? What advantage would neck turning have ( if any)?

TIA.

I would think taking it back to the .264 would be working it more than needed. .266 or .267 bushings would be a good place to start to insure good bullet grip and not over work your brass. In working with my Peterson brass I don't see any use in turning the necks. I'm only seeing at most .0015 variations and mostly .001 or less.

So, what is the proposed size of your chamber? 270? 271? What is the size ofloaded round?
Just curious. I think you got your answer above. Your gun will ultimately tell you which is best.

I would start with .003 under loaded round and tune from there. I usually tune testing seating depth and powder charge at the same time. After I found the nodes, I would adjust tension up or down to fine tune.

28 Gr of Varget is a very mild load in a Dasher. Might want to push up the ladder and see what you find.
That was for fireforming brass and setting up the primer pockets. Ive sized 95 cases and am ready to start load development.

A lot of people have a lot of different strong opinions about how to do low development. I have my own way and have gotten decent success with it so trying to sort through all that.
