6 Creedmoor Load Question

I recently built a 6 Creedmoor and i have a few questions about loads. i used a Rem 700 action and a Wilson Remage barrel for the build. i plan to try a few different bullets including 105 Hornady match, 80gr Bergers, and maybe even a 70gr bullet just to see how they perform. When i checked overall length i'm getting 2.630 touching the lands with the 105 Hornady. this seems very short for what i have read. Is anyone else seeing this type of OAL? i realize all chambers are different but this seems extremely short for this caliber. I'm also having trouble finding any load data for the 70 and 80gr bullets. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would fire 10 rds through it and refind the lands, reamers can leave sharp edges or shards that stick out skewing your findings.

I had the same trouble after building mine ( finding load data ) . The only advice I can relay on is to try snipers hide, they have some info on the 6 Creedmoore.
I built mine to hunt coyotes with and have only tried H-4350
105 berger and 103 VTV starting load was 39.0
87 berger started with 41.0
It shot the 87 grain bergers with 44.0 gr H-4350 the best with no signs of pressure and have not looked back? I have a 1-8 twist brux

Yup, that's short, 105 Hornadys fit best in a .183FB, you must have something much shorter than .183". They'll still shoot, I shot some of mine in a .104fb 6 Creed. But they have shot this good in my .183fb rifle. http://i.imgur.com/dFbmZyY.jpg

A slightly faster burning powder like RE15, Varget or even Benchmark might work good for 70-80 grainers.
If I were doing the lighter bullets Id starting looking at 6x47Lap data, I believe the Creedmoor case holds about 3 grs. more. http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle

Thanks guys, i've loaded some 70g Sierra Matchkings, 80g Berger's, and some 105g Hornady Match bullets to try. I put them all just touching the lands and they are all loaded with H4350. The gun is complete and hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow so i can head to the range. I'll let you know what they do tomorrow. the guy i got the barrel from said he is shooting 42.5 grs. of H4350 with the 70g bullets so we will see how they do.

Well guys i made it to the range today and got to try the new gun. It loved the light bullets but would not shoot anything over 70 grs. I consistently got .25 MOA with 63g Conways and 70g Sierras. As soon as i tried 80g Bergers the groups started spreading to just over 1". I tried 87g Hornady V Max and had the same issues. I also tried some 105 Hornady Match and A Max and it got worse. As i stated earlier, the barrel has a very short freebore and the 105"s are touching the lands at 2.630. I loaded each bullet .010" off the lands and jammed in the lands with H4350 at various loads from 41grs. all the way to 42.5grs. Shouldn't a 1-8 twist stabilize the heavier bullets or is there something I'm missing?

It may be worth trying. I was really hoping to use this gun for longer range shooting and i don't think the little 70g bullets are going to work. Anyone have any recommended loads with slower powder?

H4350 powder with the 140-142 pills will get you out to 1k yds....cut the load back 1 grain with lapua brass over hornady brass..

I haven't put my 6mm Creedmoor together yet, waiting on the reamer. I did a few Google searches and found some load data for the Creed. I've also done a little comparison work between the 6 creed and the 6x47 Lapua. looks like what powder/bullet works for the Lapua may work for the Creed. My 6x47L runs very well on the 115 DTACs but your shorter freebore may cause problems. You may consider your self to be a "researcher".

I talked to my gunsmith last night. He is going to cut the bore a little deeper so it will at least handle the 105's at normal seating depths. If that doesn't work it may become a lamp post !

I have checked with a cleaning rod and it is an 8 twist. I agree, it should handle the 105's without any issues. Do you think it would have anything to do with the bullets being seated so short in the case?

Very possibly could be too short in the case. But, if it was mine, I'd drop down to 39.0gr and work back up to 41gr or where ever you were shooting last time out with the 105's. Good luck with this I know it is a PIA. WD

My 6creed also has a short FB. .109. I have only shot 50 rounds through it and that was only to break in the barrel before I started load work up.

That being said, it showed excellent potential shooting .5-.7s and staying on a 4" plate at 530yds.

I also wish I would have went with little longer FB so the bullet wasn't so far in the case. I was persuaded to do the .109 so I could run mag length but honestly I don't think that would of been a real issue with the .183 FB.

My Lapua brass should be here tomorrow so hopefully I can start load testing.

The barrel break in load was 41.5 h4350, Hornady brass, 105 BTHP, cci BR, and soft touching the lands.

I don't remember my coal but it was much shorter than you read online. One of the few cases where I hope it wears measurably at first.

I'm going to try lighter loads as you mentioned. The lightest load i have shot so far was 41grs. of H4350. I think i will drop to 39 and work my way back up before i lengthen the throat. Thanks guys for all of your help. I'll post again as soon as i try the new loads.

I loaded some more Hornady 105 Match bullets with lighter loads as you mentioned. I started the loads at 39 grs. and worked up in .5 gr. increments. I also seated the bullets .015" off the lands. The 39 gr. load didn't show much improvement. The 39.5 load started to tighten the group resulting in a 5 shot group @ 100 yds less than .75". The 40 gr. load was where it got interesting. The first three shots were basically in the same hole. The last two were just outside of the group resulting in a .380" group. When i shot the next group with 40.5 grs. the group opened up to almost 1". I think i am getting close to the right load for this gun. I plan to load some more this week in .2 gr. increments and see what they do over the chrony. Thanks guys for all of your help.
