6 Creedmoor information?

I am looking for any information on the 6 Creedmoor, I shoot a custom Remington 700 in 243 Win, with a 28" Hart barrel, I'm getting 3105 fps with 115 Berger VLD's. SPOT ON gun, shoots sub quarter minute all day, so my real question is,,, is there and advantage to the Creedmoor over the standard 243, accuracy and velocity wise? Has anyone used the 115's in the Creedmoor out of the same barrel length I'm using. I load 46.5 grains of R 25 in my loads to get the 3105 velocity with no adverse pressure issues.

Depends on your use. I am building a 6 Creedmoor for competition in a class that requires magazine feeding so I will be able to load 115's long, if needed, and still fit the DBM. Perhaps less case neck growth/longer lasting brass...maybe. I don't anticipate significantly better barrel life...but maybe. Accuracy and velocity wise? Probably not. Arguably an advantage for having a small primer case....maybe?

I use my 243 across the board, I shoot long range steel, compete a little when I have time and use it for some long range varmint. I guess what I really want to know is, I'm supersonic right now to just a tick short of 1600 yards with my current set up, any velocity gains over what I have now would help stretch that a bit further, if they exist. The current combination is capable of goofing off to a mile on steel and water jugs but was wondering if the Creedmoor could enhance that by anything more? I haven't found much in that class that can.

My opinion is that the 243 load you have is likely over max pressure and, depending on where you may travel or conditions you may shoot in, it could be potential for grief. Been there and done that! I had a 26" 7.5 twist 243 and shot the 115 DTAC (naked). Had a smokin' load for it and it shot sub 1/4 MOA groups at 500 yards many times. The first time I tried to shoot it in a match that required a long string of shots it went nuts. Erratic accuracy and then blowing primers out the back of the cases.
Even if you don't run into those type issues that barrel isn't going to last long. I give you 850 rounds before it starts to south.
My 6 Creedmoor is a 26" 7.5 twist. The 105 Hybrid hits 3186 FPS any day and the brass is on its 7th firing with no losses to primer pockets. I was initially going to try the 115 DTAC in it but the speed difference between them put me solid on the 105 Hybrid. In real-world shooting the 6 Creed makes center hits at 1000 yards at 6.6 mils. Not to mention I am seeing less erosion from the Creed's longer neck and slightly sharper shoulder.
Right now you apparently have no need to switch. Take your time and focus on pros and cons for 243 v. 6 Creedmoor and, when needed, go for it.

I shoot a 243 AI 115 dtacs over RL 25 as well. Can easily reach 3100 fps but hard on the barrel. I backed off to 45.4 and shoot regularly at 850 to 1100 yards. No problem with steel matches. The throat has been set for the 115 dtacs to shoot out of Alpha mag at 2.995 oal. It chewed through the first barrel and 105's at 3250. Wouldn't recommend that again. I think the 6 Creedmore would be fun as well. Can't have enough guns as far as I'm concerned. Everyone one has its +/-s. I don't shoot competition but I have four friends that like to shoot a lot, everything from 25 yards to a mile. We are lucky to have several private farms that we've set up to shoot on.

Do you ever shoot RL-25 below 20 degrees? If so do you use a Magnum primer?

I am working up loads in a 6 Ackley and am using CCI 250s for 7828 SSC and RL-25 with 115 Bergers. This will be a hunting rig and Coyote season as well as the end of deer season includes sub 20 degree weather. I tried CCI BR-2s first and then started over with the CCI 250s and accuracy was not affected. Pressure signs showed a couple grains earlier as expected.

It is my first time with either of these powders and I don't want any surprises in cold weather so I went with the 250.

Thanks in advance for your input!

I've shot my R25 loads in all conditions including 20 degrees and colder, I've even shot it below zero and had no changes in anything. I noticed no deviation in any of my settings out to 1000, just the typical stuff you'd expect from day to day humidity and barometric pressure fluctuations. The only thing I did notice in the sub zero temps, which had nothing to do with the ammo was I would get a vapor cone forming around my muzzle brake when I shot, which was pretty cool, looked like the vapor coming off of a fighter jet. Have it on film somewhere. Other than that I felt no need to use a magnum primer.

I'm not maxed out on my load with the R25 and 115 VLD's, I'm close, but, I get zero pressure issues at all. I've shot several long strings of fire and have no issues, I've got one other Remington 700 in a similar set up with over 1500 rounds through it and still shoots on point as expected. I've had no barrel life issues, I've beat these barrels up pretty good and they are holding their own very well. I'm not sure there would be an advantage to the 6 Creedmoor at this point, at the distances I'm looking at. A gain of a few fps isn't really going to add much of an advantage at 1600 yards. At least I'm not seeing one yet.
