6 BRX Set Back

Frank,
I only lost about a inch off my brx barrel but it was closer to two inches on my 6*284 these were just my experiences I don't know if there is a min/max amount.
Wayne.

It depends on throat erosion. Barrel that are set back need not to be shot to much before the set back.

I have found with the 6mmBRX set backs done before 2000 rounds work better than waiting to 2200-2500 rounds.

Most 6mmBRX(s) will shoot 3000 to 3600 rounds of total barrel life w/o any set back if you don't push them faster than 3050 fps.

Most of my 6mmBRX shooters don't set their barrels back anymore.
Recrowning every 500 rounds is more effective.

My barrel has a little over 1600 through it. Still shooting good. I am shooting mostly 105 Hybrids right at 3000. Please explain re-crown vs. set back. Thanks. Frank

I shot the same bullets through mine last year, and about the same round count, haven't checked it with a bore scope yet so I don't know the condition but it was still shooting okay. to set it back you pull the barrel and cut say a inch off the threads and re-chamber it basically, re- thread and reinstall the barrel, to re- crown it you pull the barrel, face off the end of the barrel and re cut the crown. and re- install the barrel.

I have seen all that done. Please explain why a worn crown has more affect on performance that a washed out throat. Later! Frank

The presure is at max when the bullet leaves the barrel. Hot gases begin to leak and errode the crown causing a washed out muzzle. Use a bore scope with 20 x magnafication and you will see what I am talking about. Completely shot out barrels are worn out from both directions. The muzzle ie where the bullet is last effected by the contact of the barrel.
