6 BRX or 6.5 BRX

Hello everyone,
I wanting to get into some longrange AR shooting but cant choose which cartridge to get.
I am going to mainly be Deer and coyote hunting around 500/600 yard mark and want to use a 20" barrel.

I would not recommend either for deer at the ranges you mention. I have shot steel targets with 6 mm, 7mm. and 308 bullets at 500 yards. The 6mm produces a quiet tink with no target movement. The 7mm produces a good thump and some target movement. The 308 produces a more pronounced thump and better target movement.

I know it can be done,but I have more respect for the deer than to shoot at them that far away with the 6mm. I have killed deer well beyond those distances with 7mm and 308 bullets. The 6.5mm is a better choice, but I would prefer more velocity than you can get out of the BRX case. I think for deer and those choices that 400 yards would be a better range. Coyote would be no problem .

Hello Anthony ! I just built a custom ar 15 on a new wildcat case based off the 30AR Remington , I built a 6mm version and really like it . The 20 " barrel might be a little short to take advantage of the VLD bullets . I thought about building a 6.5 version of this rifle also but have not even got a chance to shoot coyotes with my 6mm version yet. The velocity with 95 grain bergers is 2965 fps with 36 grains of H4350 powder with a 26" barrel . With the great selection of 6.5 bullets know it is kinda tempting to build a 6.6 version on my rifle . Thanks! Mark

Anthony, I have a 6.5 BRX on an AR-15 but my barrel is 24"..... much happier with it than I am with the 6.5 G.
