6 b.r. and bluedot powder

Anyone ever used bluedot powder in a 6 b.r.,mainly with 60 to 70 grain varmint bullets,maybe Seafire will see this topic,as I know he has used this powder in a lot of applications.

Rick, with the 55g bullets and a zero freebore chamber, this would make for a great short range squirrel and p. dog rifle round with probably a 600 round cleaning interval. I shot 15g in a 22/250 with 40g bullets back in the squirrel wars. In the 223, I had two loads, short range(40g with 12g of Blue Dot at 3000), longer range 250 yds( 14.3g with 40g at 3200 that shot 1.5" groups at 200 yards).

Today, 55g I think would be the weight that I would choose due to the fact that they would shoot a lot flatter than a 70g, and 250 yards would be your max range, depending on your load.

ackleyman,did a search on using bluedot and 6 b.r.,came up with nothing,got a bunch of 75 gr. v-maxs so will do my own load development.I'm thinking I might start at around 6 grs. and work up in half grain increments until I see pressure signs,your thoughts!

6 grains seems like a good starting point, but I would watch for stuck bullets in the barrel if you hear something off or do not see a new hole in the paper. I'd also put the top end at 16 grains or 2800 fps, whichever comes first. Unless you are really trying for low velocities 8 grains may be a better starting point. The really light loads can be finicky some times.

I've used Blue Dot in a lot of loads and QuickLOAD has been fairly reliable for me. No need to push above 2800 fps. The point of Blue Dot is accurate, light loads. You can often get quiet and very accurate loads in the 1800-2500 fps range, but getting greedy on velocity can get you into pressure problems in a hurry.

Also, stick to jacketed lead bullets. Solid copper bullets can be problematic due to high friction, especially with the lighter Blue Dot loads.
