6 ARC Powder for 90’s

Getting my hands on a Proof MTR 16”. Was going to build one for a little handy rifle but got a steal on this one, brand new.

I have a boat load of 90 TGK’s. I know Leverevolution seems to be a go-to but I know it’s filthy and not temp stable. What other powder would be good here? I was considering 8208, maybe even N-140? Thanks!

Well, what do you have on the shelf in the 8208 - LeverRevolution range?

I have loaded them with 8208, CFE223, LeverRevolution, and N540 for AR's one with a 16" and the other with a 20" (both Proofs).

To be honest, they have never been stellar in the accuracy department, but with N540 I can usually expect 3/4 MOA. I have used more N540 and CFE223 than the other two.

You may know this already, but LeverRevolution and CFE223 for that matter, clean up when the pressure rises. Can't help on the temperature thing though.

It is a long bullet for weight and that long nose makes it eat up space. In a bolt action where you have the ability to seat it out, I think it would be more funner for me. We will see soon on that.

8208 / H4895 / benchmark

Then it’s up to RE15 / N140 / Varget.

I’m not against trying a different bullet, I just have a lot of those. An 87 V Max would be just fine. I wasn’t aware of that on the Levr and CFE though. That’s interesting. I don’t need it to shoot 3k but if I was in the wheelhouse of 2800 it would be nice.

Suppose It depends on your goals. Perhaps my opinion is of little use as my rather extensive experience with the 6mm ARC has all been in a bolt action platform. My go to for 90 gr in a all copper bullet has been CFE 223, though I think the 8208 & N140 you mention along with N133 have serious potential, for your use.

No reason you shouldn’t try them as you have so many. It gives you incentive. You won't see 3000 with a 16" barrel, but you already know that. Is this a prefit, or an AR barrel? I see now. The MTR was familiar but it took a few minutes to resurface in my mind. Zermatt Origin correct? Even then you still may not see 3000 with the 90 TGK, but.....

Of what you have listed, the 8208, H4895, and Benchmark would be where I would look. All three are known to be easy buttons to find accuracy and their burn rate should allow you to see good velocity without any theatrics.

Maybe I should have stated "IMO, LeverRevolution and for that matter CFE223 clean up when pressure rises".

I have about 70 rounds of experience with the 6ARC in a boltgun, but that will change when my bolt gets back from getting bushed. I'm very curious how the ARC responds to more pressure. Mighty Mouse I suspect.

If consistency and accuracy your first concerns I d work with stick powders in H4895, Varget, VV540 burn range.

If velocity priority then ball powder such as cfe223, Leverevolution, AA2520 and TAC will fulfill that desire.

So, it “depends” based on your goals.
