trivial knowledge - case head matches 40 S&W, like 9mm/5.56 & .45/.308
Thanks for the info. I was hoping to find a Savage bolt head to fit it. I neck them up to .30 and use them for Hunting with 110 V Max or 115 Bergers. Originally built a AR for Benchrest but couldn't get to the magic 3000 ish Fps. Still, it was the most accurate AR I have ever owned. Thought I would give it a try in a bolt gun.

You can use a PTG PPC savage bolt head , it'll work or you could open up a 223 and tinker with the extractor or use a 308 bolt head and use a long extractor that was used on some early long actions 223 savages . They are hard to find now .Anybody know what the parent cartridge was or if it was designed from the ground up.

Every time I get close to giving up on the 6.8 someone comes up with something else to save it from the axe, STOP IT please, now I have to waste some time and consider the 400 Thumper just sounds cool
.400 thumper is not an existing cartridge, lol, just made it up. However, there is one person I know working with 6.8 basic brass and loading .400 bullets, I do not remember what he was calling it. I'll see what I can dig up on it later today.
I'm thinking chop a 6.8 basic at 1.5-1.6" and drop a 180gr hollow point in there over some H110 or something of that nature would be a helluva hog gun!
I do all sorts of stupid stuff any way, Yes I knew it was just a thought up cartridge, but a good one, so one more non existent cartridge that will be relative easy to make just begs to have me do it, probably wont even need a seizer made either, just a barrel for my contender made that is the only sticky point another 400 bucks for a barrel I will probably only shoot once in a while.... yes I did catch the 400 price tag and the 400 caliber. I had a SUNNYS 33 made last
