6.8 SPC vs 6.8 SPC II

From what I gathered @ 6.8.com, the SPC II has a longer throat so the guys could load hotter rounds in their AR rigs. Didn't want to mess with my Colt AR SO, I went the other way.
Ordered up a 6.8 SPC chambered barrel for my Savage bolt gun so I could jam my bullets into the lands. Started off with lighter bullets and will go heavier as the throat wears. So far, bug holes.:D:cool:

Considerably greater freebore, different throat angle and a full inch-point difference in rifling twist pitch to 1:11". This allows heavier loads and >100 fps + MV increases within the SAAMI COAL and maximum pressures.

SPCII is closer to what the original chamber design was. Remington submitted an errant print to SAAMI with the wrong cone angle and freebore, which combined with early production Tac factory ammo (loaded hot) produced significant (dangerous) pressure spikes. I've been shooting the 6.8 in silhouette and varmint steel matches for over 5 years. I have a custom chamber suited for my purposes. I load over book max and also have done lots of testing with long barrel ARs and this round.

Tac ammo is long gone, all load data is based on SPC specs, and honestly finding a new SPC chambered barrel these days is tough. Pretty much everyone is going to .095-.110 free bore and theres no issues with any factory ammo.
