6.8 spc reloading

I have a stag arms lower with a bison armory upper 21”heavy duty barrel. I just started reloading. After viewing many forums the recipe I chose was ssa brass cci 450 primers accurate 2200 powder 27.5 grains and Hornady 120 grain sst bullets. The grouping wasn’t impressive. 27.5 was considered the max so I tryed 27,26.5,and 26 grain loads. The 27 grain loads were the most accurate but not as small of a group as I want. Any advice would be appreciated

My go to loads in long barrels are 29.5gr H335 under a 110bthp. Start at 29 and work up. This load has shot well in 6 different barrels from 18" to 24" ARs. 10x is another good powder to try.

I want the 120’s for hunting reasons. How small of a grouping are you achieving. I’ve read about the h335 but was under the impression that the accurate 2200 was the “best”

2200 is the best for most barrels under 18" which is where the 6.8 is known for not losing as much as other chamberings. 20" and longer barrels are really not in the normal spectrum of the 6.8 AR.

My #1 upper has an average around 0.75moa out to 500m (approx 1800 rounds on it) my #2 upper is so far averaging a little less but only a few hundred rounds on it, and you can't shoot an average group any smaller. Both uppers are 24". But these are both at mag length, I have another seating depth node way too long for the mag that shoots tighter. Ive been shooting long range silhouette and varmint silhouette matches for the past 6 years with the 6.8.

Another powder I have had success with CBB 120 TMT is BLC2. I never could get the 120SST to shoot well in either of my barrels. I'll have to double check my notes for other bullet and powder combinations that have worked well.

That’s great info. Thank you so much. I love the gun and the caliber. Probably not the best first choice to start reloading but it’s my favorite. Do you know what kind of speed your getting

I want to say around 2650-2700. If you're searching on 68forums you'll probably find a bunch of my older posts. I haven't been on there in a few years. Same user name. I was able to run the CBB 120TMT up to 2750 with BLC2 in my 10 twist #1 upper with minimal load work up and moa accuracy pretty much across the board. The 120MKZ is the same profile bullet as 120TMT and incredibly effective on game.
