6.5x55 reamer question

I had to sell my 98 Mauser based 6.5x55,gonna regret it) and I am into new 6.5x55 build again, unless I find factory Tikka locally!

That Mauser was very nice gun, but my smith throated to very long bullets, probably his reamer was designed for original military 154gr round noses. I just told him I wanted that particular caliber, and he used whatever reamer he had. This time I want to avoid this mistake; I want the rifle to be optimized for 140 grain Amaxes and SMKs. I decided to order reamer. But I don't know what to order.,Perhaps I can rent or borrow it from someone?). Any suggestion appreciated.

Call Dave Kiff @,541) 826-5808 and tell him the bullet you plan to use and he will take it from there...

You better check out the A- Max bullet first It Is BY no means a short bullet. Not like some of the flat based bullets.

A big mistake made by most is having a reamer made with too long of a throat. You can't put it back in once it's gone.

Beg and borrow the longest bullet you ever imagine using and seat it as deep as you can, meaning the base or top of the boattail at the neck shoulder junction. The get the reamer made there, send that dummy round to Kiff. Be specific that you don't want the throat any longer than necessary.

I've had a lot of reamers made by Dave Kiff by telling him the bullet I plan on using for that reamer, and none of them have been to long in the throat.
They are all putting the base of the bullet at the base of the neck shoulder junction, and are about .020 off the lands like that... exactly where I want them, and lots of room to play with.....
