6.5x55 load that gets it done updated

Well I changed powder and primer lots..Pact still has my chronograph...which they have had since the 21 of last month.

Anyways I took my cousin Tim who is back from Iraq and is goining to be stationed at Ft. Carlson Colorado, out to shoot the rifle he bought from me. I got him zeroed and then he shoot 3 shots into a ragged hole. Timmy hasn't had a rifle that accurate, so he was impressed.

We moved the targets back to 230 yds or so and it looks like 50.6 grains of VIN N560 is the ticket .2 grains less than last time.

I use Lapua brass, PMC primers and 140 Berger VLD moly coated. When I did have the chronograph it measured an ES for 10 shots of 6.8fps.

I did sort out the brass to .5 grain increments, but that is all.

RHINOUT!

Took out the rifle again today with RL 22 and went from 50.2-51.0 in .2 grain increments.

RL 22 offers a denser load because its a longer cut stick powder, but it didn't give the groups I was looking for.

Best groups were down at 50.2, sorry chrono in the shop for numbers.

I tested 140 Hornaday A-maxes and Bergers. Both did well with the 140 bergers hitting higher at 230 yds...max I can get because of a crest in the range.

I may try some lower charges in the 49.5-50.2 range, but then again I won't get as much velocity as VIN N560. All bullets were molyed and .002 neck tension jamed into the lands .005.

51.0 grains with the 140 A-maxes looked like a shotgun but the bergers didn't seem to wonder off course as much.

I know from my tikka that 51.4 grains of rl 22 in my 23 3/8 barrel did good and 52 grains of VIN N560. So maybe If I back down to 50.0 grains I would hit the sweet spot in my Remington Aics 700 LA.

Stupid chronograh has been away for 6 weeks. I may have to call PACT again and bug them!

VIN N560 groups were 1/4 MOA while RL 22 were 1/2 MOA roughly speeking.

Lapua brass ff and neck turned and only necking a tiny bit roughly 1/2 the caliber so everything else is tight. Shot off a portable shooting bench and F-class Sinclair bipod with a stop on the front of my bench so I could lean a little into the shot.

I am sure off a good front rest and rear bag it would much better as the bipod was sliding left after the shots.

This rifle will be for sale after the last shoot @ bodines in September to fund my Warner Belly BR rifle.
