6.5x55 difference 6mm BR

Im new here and this is my first post... WOW... what an Awesome page, I just stumbled on... I cant remember how i got herem but i registered my name and will have lots to read up on ....
I have a Carl Gustav Swedish Mauser,1902) in 6.5x55 i use in millitary style compitions... Would I be able to get the accuracy out of her like the 6mm BR calibre? thanks.

Welcome!

With all the negatives an issue rifle has, wood, barrel bands, sloppy fitting/chambering/rifling/crown)...NO, but properly assembled in the same caliber it would come close ;)

the 6.5x55 is a good 1000yd round.

NO military rifle have alot of slop in them. If you have the GC 80 or whatever it is with the match irons they are pretty good, but still on an out-dated action.

Set-up a prone military rifle with modern equipment by a top notch smith and you'll run with a 6br, especially after 600 yards :)

2-3 years ago I was talking to Jim Borden about building me one. I wish I could have done it. It would have been a great rifle. -Rod-

Greetings Rhino.

Thank-you for your comment. Im waiting with excitment to get my 6.5x55 back from the 'Smith' and see what she does at 500 and then 1000yrds. Im using 140gr Hornady BT... 43grs of IMR 4350. I hope to get a chrony for Christmas to check my speeds.

I don't know if you'll be happy with that bullet at 1k. If your going to stick with Hornaday try A-max for 1k work and a 1-9 twist.

4350 is a wee bit fast, works, but a touch too fast for the long VLD type bullets. I would suggest H4831 SC Reloader 22 or VIN N560.

Hi Rhino.

Hmm.. I was wondering about that myself after all the info I was reading about powders and stuff. I think I will try the H4831 SC. I think that will be the best for my 1:9 twist. I've written down so many tips and have a 300 cases ready. All trimmed to 54.7mm. Neck sized only,My Swede fired). De-burred flash hole inside and out, cleaned). Chamfered neck tip. I will seat bullets out as far as I can. Targets ready to go. I will get the bullets you suggested and treat them with a container of graphite powder that I have and give them a good 10-15 shake, makes them real slick. Thanks Rhino. Have a GREAT Weekend!!

Whiteout!.... LOL

WhiteRhino - I've been shooting a 6.5x55 bbl.,Krieger std. Palma - 30" length, 8-twist) on my Nesika K LR rifle at 1000 with Lapua cases, AA3100, F215M, & Lapua 139 Scenars, moly'd). This is a strong custom action, so keeping pressures down for a surplus Swedish Mauser isn't a concern. The load I'm using with the above combination of components chronos at just under 2900fps, as does the warmest load I've tested with H4350. Primers look good at this load level, and primer pockets are staying tight, so I feel these loads are safe. However, I built another 6.5x55 for a friend, using a M70 push feed action and a 29" PacNor 3-groove, 8-twist bbl., and he's been using N560 with moly'd S142MKs to get just over 3000fps with excellent accruacy at 1000yds. I have a few test loads assembled with N560 & L139s, in Lapua cases primed with CCI BR2s, but haven't had time to get out and test them over the chrono off the bench at 600 yet. I think you'll like your 6.5x55 - keep us informed!
