6.5x47Lapua Works!

18 shots 1000 yds. prone. Two at extreme left of 20" ten ring plate were the sighters. Shots atop shots it is!

I have to admit I’m very impressed with this calibre. Tried some 130gr Bergers and 137gr SCENARS but so far the 108gr Silver SCENARS have the upper hand. I have yet to try the 123gr

Below is the score card from 1000yds at Bisley this weekend. Once fired brass, ran short of time so loaded from the RCBS powder measure rather than the Chargemaster. 38.5gr N140, so not a wild load. Looking forward to getting the bullet/loads sorted out, but already it’ll hang in with my 6mmBR.

Centre circle on card = 14.4"

how do you shoot that rifle? Do you shoot free recoil or strong hold? I was wondering about those bi pods with the sleds on the feet. Just wondering. Thanks, Josh

Hi Josh, I don’t use a strong hold, I tend to grip the rifle firmly until I’ve got it into the position I want using the capstan wheel on the bipod and if necessary pinching the ears of the rear bag with my left hand, then relax the grip. I let my shoulder just kiss the butt of the rifle. Recoil on the 6.5x47 is not a problem, so no need for any more.

I watched a couple of the GB F-Class guys who won the World Championships last year. They were shooting 7mm WSM (I think), whatever it was the recoil was horrendous. One was using a SEB front rest and it looked to me like the rifle was jumping all over the place under recoil. Not just along the length of the rifle but torque was making it skew. I’m sure these calibres may hold an advantage in a strong wind but I think I’ll stick to the 6.5 and keep my shoulder in its socket.

More info on the bipod can be found here: http://accurateshooter.wordpress.com/2008/11/27/canadian-ski-bipod-for-f-class-shooters/
