6.5x47L Load Development - Need Help!

Hey guys, pretty new here. I'm working on my first real long range setup and I need some help. I made it through my ladder test and found a flat spot around 38.7gr. (H4350 w/140gr Hornady HPBT Match) I was looking strictly at my velocity and not group size here. Then I went to seating depth and I'm struggling to bring the groups in. Am I missing something by not examining groups from my ladder test?

Depending on your freebore, I believe you are a bit low in charge weights. "Assuming" you have around a .160-.175 freebore, you will find that right at 39.7 to 40.3grs of H4350 will be where it likes it. If you are using a 30" barrel you will be running somewhere between 2815 and 2840 f.p.s. I do not have any experience with the Hornady Match bullets, however, I do with most other 140 class bullets. I have had 4 / 6.5 x 47s and I know them well.

Agreed. 140s with 40 grains of h4350. Setting bullets at lands. This has worked with 140 amax and 140 Bergers in two different 6.5x47 I have had. 2820-2840 seems to be the velocity for these 140s

If those bullets are anything like the A-max then you may indeed be close to the top end node with only 38 + ~ grns of powder. The A-max .264" 140 class bullet was (is) one with a relatively long surface area.

Myself I would spend more time looking at where the holes are being placed on the paper during a ladder as opposed to their velocities, but having said that I don't always bring fancy wood home lol.

Thanks guys! I went back and looked at my data again and I had a more stable load at 39.6gr and I completely missed it. Headed out today to try it.

39.6 h4350 is a very common load for the 140s. Google 6.5x47 load map. It should bring you to a great write up here that will help. Post pics!!

Can you pls tell us your freebore? I also got 3 6.5x47 all diff freebore 2 uses h4350 one is varget.. Shooting both 130 and 140 hyb

42 grains is too hot with a 140, bad advice. I'm on my third x47 barrel and none of them will do that
That is why i said "work your way up". Most guns finish at 41.3 but have had some finish(show presure) at 42.1. If you do not understand handloading terminology you should not be looking for loads on the internet. I never post load recepies without the monicer "start lower".

I would encourage you to read this thread where I show just how much rifle to rifle differences can be.
