6.5x47L, 8.5 twist, 140s ok???

I have a new to me barreled action on the way. It is a 6.5x47L with a 8.5 twist. I have a large stock of 140 grain bullets. Will this combination work? It's no big deal for me to buy 130s, just wondering what people's experiences have been.

I have several friends with 6.5x47’s and 6.5 Creedmoor that have 8.5” twist Barrels and shoot 140’s...and I live in Mississippi where we need all the twist we can get. Try those 140’s...I bet they will work fine.

I also like the Berger 130 Hybrid though.

My 8.5 twist Krieger shot em ok but really shined with the 130 gr VLD Berger Hunting bullet and hot charge of Varget. 750’ elevation here.

My last barrel was an 8.5” twist and it shot 140 Hybrids lights out. I wouldn’t hesitate to get another in 8.5 twist. Elevation is 4700-5000’ where I’m at

I've heard of a lot of people having good luck with the 8.5 twist. However, a while back I called Brux barrels and asked them their opinion on this very thing(for a 6.5 x 47) before ordering one of their barrels. I was told go with an 8 twist and not the 8.5. I figure they know more than I ever will.

I agree...If you know your bullet that you plan on shooting, build accordingly. Ask around, check out the twist calculators, etc... But, if you have the build done, don't be scared to test some of the stuff that, according to others..."won't shoot". You may be pleasently suprised.
