6.5x47

just got my hands on 1 in 9 twist barrel going to build a 6.5x47,just wondering what will be the best weight of bullet for out to 1000 yrds.

Dave, you probably are going to see best results with the mid to heavy weights. The ballistics on the 123 gr. Lapua Scenar looks mighty good for that twist but you may be able to do better with the 140 gr. range. Just have to check her out and see. Bill

The 139-140 gr bullets may need a 1:8.5" or faster twist.

In my opinion, stick with the 123 Scenar or 130 Berger. Both great bullets.

At my club's most recent 600-yard match we had two shooters with new Barnard-actioned 6.5x47s. The gun shooting the Berger 130s with RL15 shot a 1.8" 5-shot group at 600. The guy shooting the Scenar 123s nailed a 1.5" group! Take your pick.

The Nosler 120 and Sierra 123 are also very good bullets, but the BC is better with the Berger.
