6.5x47 VS 308

Hi all,

I was wondering how the 6.5x47 compares with the 308 winchester for bullet drop, wing cheating, feeding from a rem magazine and barrel life. I was thinking of converting my rem700 police to the 6.5 when the 308 barrel goes south.

Thanks,

This would be a good choice. Depending on the speed and the bullet you use it will shoot with or surpass the 175s in your 308 for both wind drift and drop.

You may want to look at the new 6.5creedmoor from Hornady too. Its a little bigger than the 6.5x47 Lapua.

I think the only drawback would be to barrel life.

Most of the 6.5's tend to be harder on barrels than those chambered for .308, but the loads you shoot and your "need for speed" will play a big a role in barrel life.

6.5x47 isn't quite as new a cartridge as the 6.5 Creedmoor so there's not a lot of rifles being used to get real-world info from yet. Ballistically many 6.5 bullets have a lot to recommend them even at,barrel-friendly) 2600 - 2900 fps.
