**6.5x47 pressure! Fake or Real??

Hey Guys,

Couple questions for your shooters that have more experience than I

I have a new 6.5x47
Defiance action
26 inch barrel, 1-8.5
123 scenar 5 thou off lands

I am working up a load, and Dont know if what I am seeing is actually pressure signs

I sighted in my rifle with 36 grains of Varget, push a 123 grain Scenar, ANd I noticed shiny marks on my case head. Like ejector marks.

I figured there is no way that 36 grains of varget would create pressure, so thats why I loaded a batch to sight everything in.

I also loaded 6 rounds of each

37.1 varget 123 scenar
37.4
37.7
38
38.3

I shot all for my groups, and to see what one shot best, so I could proceed with that particlar load.

ALL 5 loads, had that same shiny case heads like ejector marks.
There were not other pressure signs in any of the loads. All primers looked good, bolt handle was not everly hard to lift, All loads had the same bolt handle lift.

The bolt was just a tad harder to lift than usual, but that was will ALL loads.

I want to investigate 38 and 38.3 grains of varget pushing a 123 at 5 thou off the lands, they shot really well in this rifle at 2940 and 2960 FPS respectively

What in the world is going on here???

When you get the same ejector marks with loads that range over almost 10%,, and no other signs, it is typically due to raged edges in the ejector hole, so it stamps and wipes everything the same.

Look there first and maybe polish the edges with some 600 grit silicone carbide wet-n-dry paper with some oil on it.

OK, think I got it, hopefully

I took the plunger out, and shot the rifle, no ejector marks and the bolt handle is back to normal on the uplift after the shot,

It stick up a little and rubs on the case, I am going to trim a sping coil on the ejector and hope it helps

Before you trim the spring you might want to try the ejector in the hole to make sure it will in fact go in far enough to be flush with the bolt face. It should do that, but I would check that first.

I had exactly the same problem with a few loads in a custom Remington 700, load had been used for some time then all of a sudden ejector marks. I thought of dirt/dust/crud around the ejector so I decided to pull it out and clean. This rifle has always been very agressive ejecting cases and creating small dents on the tip of the necks from hitting the side of the chamber on ejection so after cleaning I replaced the over strong ejector spring with one out of a Bic Lighter.

No more ejector marks, no more dented cases, no more throwing cases over to the next bench if I didn't catch them first or block them. Now no matter how hard I pull the bolt back to eject it just drops the fired case right next to the rifle.

Solved two problems at once.

I trim the ejector springs in ALL of guns... I don't want to chase brass.
