6.5x47 neck tension

wondering what neck tension people were using on the 6.5x47 lapua with a .293 no turn neck?what bushings do i need to get to get started?

My fired case necks measure .293" from a PT&G no turn chamber. Loaded diameter w/123 Scenars measures right between .289" and .290". I'm using .288" Redding bushings.

Long Range 223,

If you talk to Sinclair, Graff & Son's, etc.etc. they will tell you to take the brass you plan to use and seat the bullets you plan to use. Take a measure of the dumby round,s) then get one bush that it .002" less and one that is .003" less than the loaded round and try the .002" first and as the cases age you may have to squeeze them down with the .003". Forget about what your chamber neck dimensions are it will only confuse you. Lastly don't fire a case, then take measurements, you will only be choising a bushing to large and working your brass to much...

There's been a change in the recommended method of choosing the correct neck bushing diameter since Sinclair and Graf's started publishing their advice. Redding now recommends starting out .001" smaller, instead of the previously recommended .002" to .003" smaller) than the loaded neck diameter unless your case necks are not concentric, in which case .002" to .003" smaller is advised.

Go to www.redding.com, then select Tech Line & Tips. Click on Bushing Selection, revised 3/3/2003) for an explanation.

Of course, just like anything else in accuracy handloading different barrels respond to different loading techniques so YMMV.
