6.5x47 loads with 120 a-max

what u got for loads with 120 a-max,,,was useing 130 berger vld,would make a 1hole group at 100yrds,but keyholed at 500????got any ideas on the problem here?

Give us some info about your 130gr Berger loads to work with such as what charge, powder used, oal, barrel length & twist and we'll run the numbers on QL.

Handler, if you like AMaxes, try Hornady's new 6.5mm 123 AMax (.510 BC vs .465 for the 120).

thnx, ill give them a try,like that bc.i just got my gun put together,and have about 65 rounds down for barrel break-in,all groups have been well under 1/2 moa at 100,then i shot at 300,and had a group with all 3 touching,,,moved out to 500,and all 3 were side ways,thnx

Realise that, just misread.

Can't understand how it's tackdriving at 300 but key-holing at 500.

I once tried some ss109s thru my std (slow twist) VS .223 and sure enough, it was about a 2 foot group at 300yds. Around the 1/2" mark with lighter projs at 100yds

I am shooting a 6.5x47L and also tried RL-15. I can't comment on shooting past 200 yards, b/c that's all far as my local range goes. I can say I have had mixed results with RL-15. One day it would shoot one hole, next day, same load, I was getting 1" groups. I have recently tried other powders hoping to ease my frustration.

I know many are getting great results with RL-15. Have you tried anyother powders yet?

reloader 15 120 berger 37-38 in the rifling .005-.010 . if you are using a bushing die try different neck tensions .0025 to .003 works well and made a difference at extened ranges 500- 600yds. The Rifler

Hey Handler, was this a one of event? I mean have you repeated the sideways bullets at 500 yards. An 8 twist barrel shooting 130gr VLDs at 2850fps is not going to go thru a target sideways at 500 yards!

I'm betting you had the wrong powder charge in the cases that went sideways. A simple mistake in filling the cases with a low load might do what you have described.

130 VLD's are the cat's meow in the 6.5x47L. Mine, a Surgeon 591, 26" 1:8.5 Krieger put two sets of 5 into .25" and .26" just this am at 100 yds with 40.1 gr H4350, seated .008" into the lands running 2834 fps. Redding FL .289" bushing then Sinclair expander mandrel. Problem is the ES was 34 fps. Need to play with neck tension and primers. Used F205M.

This same load but using .288" bushing and no expander mandrel put 5 into 6-3/4 vertical" @ 1000yds and SD was 5. I was running my first Jason Baney 1000 yd ladder 3 weeks ago with it.

i use an rcbs charge master for powder,but that doesnt mean i cant make a powder charge error,,good point,ill have to check it again,this tommorrow ill be trying it again at 100-850,ill have to play with neck tension,,i tried some h-4350,40grns at 2795,low es,and shot really well,thnx for the a-max loads,and ill post what i see,thnx everyone.
