6.5x47 lapua

I'm new to long range shooting and I am have a 6.5x47 lapua built on a McMillan A4 stock and a Pac nor barrel #8 28" barrel with a remington 700 action and nightforce nxs 5.5-22x56 with the MOAR reticle do y'all think this will be a good set up?

For, "long range shooting," you have a great setup. If you get more specific about your activities and/or start competing, then you will probably evolve your setup.

That's going to be a great rig. My rifle is very similar to yours. I shot at 600 and 900 yards yesterday and it keeps 5 shots under an MOA with ease. I am shooting 130 hunting Bergers.

Well that's awesome to hear I was hoping to hear about someone's good news about their 6.5x47! 130 I guess that's the best round or so I have been told by a lot of people

I one holed a three shot group with both 123 a-max and 140 grain a max. I got it sighted for 2 inches high at 100. Shot out to 950 at steel. I'm no competition shooter but I can't wait to shoot some deer or bear soon as I get hunt booked. According to ballistic program I'm getting 2870 or so out of the 140s. Erik Corina is the Lapua expert on here.

That's awesome I can't wait till mine is finished to see what I can do with it and ill defentily be shooting deer at long range with it! What kinda of scope do you have on yours

I just have a Bushnell 6500 elite tactical. 2.5-16x42. Mil dot. I got it new for 650 off a good buddy/ shop down the road. 16 power isn't enough for ground hogs past 500 if ya ask me but I got a 6x47 Lapua in the works with a 24 power sighttron for that chore. I just bang steel with it mostly and hopefully a big animal some day. :D

I have never been ground hog hunting I've always wanted too but never have!
So I'm guessing I done pretty good picking what I wanted to build the gun? Should I get a muzzle break does it have a lot of recoil?

No. I just like no recoil. I can watch the bullets hit if its a little way out. I've never take brake off and shot it but I'm sure it'd have no more than a 243 or so.

I've shot out to 950 before. First round hit on 20 inch steel. Its all wind reading in my head once u find a good load and learn all Ur elevation dials. It woulda hit a 10 inch steel too. I'm suppose to go bear hunting in pa in Nov so I went looking for 140 berger hunting bullets today and couldn't find them. Hope I can get em to shoot as good.

Wow. These stories of the 6.5x47 Lapua have me stoked!

I just received my barreled action the other day. This requires me to wait to amass enough money to buy a stock and a scope!~ LOL. I have the brass and bullets and powder and primers etc., dies and other tools, and whatnot. I reckon it will be a few months before I am able to shoot my first shot.

It sounds like if there is an inherently accurate cartridge, this one might be it. I doubt that recoil will be any worse than a 243.

Sounds like your on your way ....................My 6.5x47 shoots really well with 130 gr hunting bergers H4350 and 450m primers it shoots bug holes REM 700 1/8 TWST SHILEN SELECT MATCH 28'' 40X STOCK VORTEX OPT.GOOD LUCK

Recoil is way less than on .243, not even close.
When I had my gunsmith put mine together I asked him if he would recommend a brake on it aswell, he laughed at me and said "well if you're a 13 year old girl then maybe... just maybe"
So basically he could have said yes and made extra money from me but decided to tell me the truth instead. This is one of the mildest recoil calibers around, and deff the mildest 6,5 out there.
A brake is a waste

I have a brake. I like to watch my bullets hit. ;D. There is nothing like pulling a trigger with a pound of force just using Ur tip of Ur finger. Hearing a bang. Feeling hardly anything then watching it impact steel 950 yards away. Lol. God I love that gun.

I absolutely love the 6.5 cal. if you come here to hunt bear with that 6.5x47 keep your shots under 250 yds. these bear are much tougher than you would think. I plowed one 3 years ago with my Remington 700 in 6.5 swede loaded really hot pushing 130 bergers to about 3100 fps and the bullet just exploded on his shoulder. I didn't get the bear but luckily it was shot about a mile away by another hunter. my cousin also had to shoot his 275lb boar 5 times with a 280 to get his to go down. I know its all about shot placement but in thick woods a small twig can make your bullet worthless even if it still makes contact. last year we had a young kid with us who took a 465lb boar at 20 yds with one shot out of his plain old 30-06.
have fun, bear is def my favorite season here.
